I love valve and source but i feel a little like i got ripped off.
I purchased the retail version of Half-Life2 Collectors Edition;
The game includes:
HL2
CSS
HLS

THE BOX DOES NOT SAY THEY'R FREE OR ANYTHING- i payed extra money to get half-life & CS:S so why cant i get Blue Shift? I own a legitimate copy of halflife so i should be able to get Blue Shift!

VALVE - any chance you will let us "Collectors Edition" fans get the game through steam (you've come through before ;0)

Any votes to open Blue Shift through steam for the Collectors Edition buyers?

You payed extra money to get Half Life SOURCE.

Half life source IS NOT HALF LIFE 1! It does not run off the Half Life/ Quake engine.

I suggest you go spend the extra money on Half Life. Too good a game to not buy. All those mods...

And I payed for Blue Shift. How do you think I feel?

You didn't pay extra money to get Blue Shift. You paid to get three games, which I believe you mention in your post.

"The game includes:
HL2
CSS
HLS"

It doesn't say "Future re-releases of Blue Shift -- maybe". If they never offered Blue Shift, you would've been out the same amount of money. So you didn't get ripped.

So on the half-life box it said you would get all "Future re-releases of Blue Shift"

sinkoman, I hear what your saying but even though it's source i still own Half-Life.
Otherwise they just make people want to download half-life serials off the net and register so they can get BS.

It does say if you own halflife 1. not half life source as said in a post above. Go buy halflife 1. Its on a few $ now.

You need HL1 to play BS! I've got the Collectors Edition aswell, but I don't whine about it . They don't even have HL1 uphere anymore, except for the HL: Generation pack, but I'm going to ask a friend's parents to buy it off Steam for me and I'll pay them cash.

You also paid for DoD source I believe. It'll blow every other WWII shooter out of the water from what I've seen.

Reminds me of when I bought Half-Life. I picked up the more expensive GOTY edition when there was the original/regular edition right next to it. All the extras turned out to be free, but this was back when I was still on 56k so it'll have been murder to download all of Team Fortress Classic. And the box art was better, so I won't regret it.

PS: Hey...I actually paid for Blue Shift but it's free now! It now only have two advantages: No needs for Steam and a non ugly interface.

Nah, we don't get DoD: S. It doesn't say anything about it on any site I've seen, and VALVe hasn't confirmed (nor denied) this AFAIK.

You ought to be forever thankful to VALVe for giving you Lost Coast FOR FREE

Thy beeching shall end now KTHXPLZ! :D

The only thing I'm going to always bitch to Valve about are the Steam version menus versions of the original HL games.

Unless one of you can tell me how I can change it's appearance or restore it to it's former look.

ok ok - i was just asking what people thought - i just never got BS and it's not at my local shops (i want it mostly for the story)

Yeah, thats why i cant wait to get it ;0)

I voted yes before I realised you meant the HL2 Collector's Pack. Why on Earth should Blue Shift (a HL1 game) come with that?!

He said giving. Not gave. Read it again.

It doesn't matter what Half-life you have, you need HL1 to play an HL1 mods because it runs off the HL1 engine. HL1 Source runs on SOURCE funnily enough, meaning HL1 mods cant run on it, therefore you need to original HL1.

Its more of a crime the fact that you are part of this HL community and you don't even own the original game which started all this, with all those mods. If you are so interested in the old HL1 mods then buy Half-life? It makes sense right? You knew what came with the collectors edition, if you were not interested in gold or silver (which includes the back catalogue) then you will be victim to the consequence that you don't have HL1. And due to that...i'm sorry but you missed out big time and you still are...

If you pay for the steam version, instead of getting a nice box, you get the back catelog

I don't think you got ripped. =p
Just HL1 and HL2 Steam buyers are getting some extra goodies.

you got what you payed for, quit complaining, you can pick up Half Life for a fiver now and you will get all the other games but CZ, so quite bitching, a fiver is like the price of a train ticket.

Who said Blue Shift was a mod? Last time I checked it was STANDALONE!

I wouldn't pay for just a level with pretty gfx that was cut out of the original game. Maybe they could charge for it if it was a 1/2 expansion or something.

Your Crime? Putting off buying the world's best First Person Shooter of the years 1998 to 2004 until the very last moment.

Your Punishment? No Blue Shift for you laddie. But then, you don't have Opposing Force, and that can't have been bothering you, so why should Blue Shift bother you? Go buy the original Half-Life already.

In europe, it was an expansion, not standalone like in the US AFAIK. Regardless, what would the point be in Valve having the download for the miniscule BS expansion grow to twice the size because they're bundling the engine with it as well? That's just a waste of Steam's already over-stressed Bandwidth.

i bought the uk retail colectors and i can get blue shift
So THAT is why mine says 'Not to be sold in the UK'. You have your own Collector's Edition.

I own an original copy of Halflife 1
can i still get BS for it?

Yes, as long as you have a registered HL1 account with Steam you get Blue Shift free.
Remember Blue Shift was oringally NOT FREE. So getting Opposing Force and Blue Shift free with HL is very nice. Thank gearbox and valve.

Just to clarify a few facts:

You paid for the Half-Life 2: Collectors Edition which only contains Source engine games. Included in this is Half-Life: Source, which although is a port of the original game, doesn't necessarily mean you should be entitled to play any of the mods or expansions associated with it. You got what you paid for as advertised by the box.

People who bought HL2: CE will NOT be getting Day of Defeat: Source for free. HL2: CE was published by Vivendi/Sierra. Activision are the official DOD: Source publishers which means if you buy DOD:S in the shops then part of your money will need to go to Activision and as such means you won't be able to buy it in a box published by Vivendi/Sierra; or any future packages released by EA Games.

To reward anyone who purchased the original Half-Life -- we're going back 7 years a go now which means there's a lot of fans that have been fond of HL for 7 years -- Valve have released any Half-Life Engine based product for free if you own the original Half-Life. If you a copy of Half-Life that's tied to your Steam account, you can download the following games for free:

Half-Life
Half-Life: Opposing Force
Half-Life: Blue Shift
Team Fortress: Classic
Day of Defeat
Counter-Strike
Ricochet
Deathmatch Classic

To clarify; no, you weren't ripped. You've received what you paid for. DOD: Source will need to be purchased additionally if you bought HL2 from a shop or the Bronze Steam edition. And finally buying the original Half-Life is good value for money!

I rest my case :E

i payed for my blueshift years ago. i dont feel ripped off =\

thanks Chris_D
shit i'll prob get HL if i get all that extra stuff, be a little tricky to find it.
i was thinking that BS was a source port like HL:S (is the general story for BS on the net, that's all i want).

I'm quite annoyed with blue shift, I try to get down the elevator with 2 scientists in (just as gordon unleashes xen) but one of the gets killed by something and the game says that I killed him (by shooting him) and takes me back to the last load point.

This happens every time.....

Same here, though I got lucky after 3 goes. Quicksave on the way down the lift, keep crouch jumping and try standing in random places and hoping for the best.

Had the same problem. My problem was that I left the spot next to the control panel. If I stood right next to it the whole time and didn't move once, it worked fine.
