Been listening to these guys for years, and I can't believe there are no threads on them already. Mike and Marcus Sandison, two Scottish guys who make some of the most compelling, beautiful music ever created. If not THE most. I can't justify listening to them enough.

Get - (by any means):

Music Has The Right To Children, Geogaddi, and In A Beautiful Place Out In The Country. You can listen to every song on http://www.bleep.com/?label=boc .

The difference is this stuff really takes time to settle and work itself out in your mind. At first you may look at a song as nothing but a few notes, as if it's no big deal. But these songs make you feel the music. It has an amazingly strong nostalgic and emotional quality to it that can only be perceived through attentive listening.

:dork:

Boards of Canada is one of my favorite artists. Their latest album was good, but it seemed to lack a lot of the mystique that their earlier works had.

The EP's that led up to their debut (Music Has The Right...) also has some of their best material. "Seeya Later" is pure distilled BoC, and "Everything You Do Is A Balloon" is just beautiful.

Yes, I've heard everything by them as well :). Just trying to get people onto the essentials. Nlogax is so awesome, psychadelic chopped up vocals and pure synth madness. And I completely agree on EYDIAB. One of their best tracks ever. You have all the Old Tunes, right?

All on my computer, at least. Some of their older EPs can be ridiculously hard to find.

Just letting you know, besides old tunes, every ep on soulseek etc.. before twoism and hi scores is fake. Amazingly, they've never been leaked.

Yes, Boards of Canada are fantastic. If you like them, please tell me you're a Mogwai fan.

The music project I'm working on at the moment, whilst inspired by Mogwai and other 'post-rock' bands, is also in the same vian of BOC. As was my minamilist GCSE music peice.

Heard great things about Mogwai, never listened to them though. I've always got an open mind for any type of music so recommend an album and I'll give it a spin.

No threads? Well i dislike this music which i think is just odd, but i've heard alot about them on this site from people like Ennui i believe. Use the search feature.

(i have listened to Mogwai, also odd, but i like Sigur Ros, but i'm not sure if thats the same league now...)

Just because Ennui posts about them a couple of times doesn't mean I can't make a thread. Post something useful.

I wasn't critising your like in music at all, i was stating i found it odd, see the difference buddyroo!? And if i dislike the music i'm entitled to state that in this thread despite your silly authorative attitude, so step back and don't jump down my throat jesus christ.

The point i was making about Ennui posting about them, is that there has been talks of them, you've evidently never seen them, so have a read and knock yourself out. Thats it...no sign of me asking for this to be locked, but the path your taking this down is closer to it.

(Thats better, edit your post...dear god)

I wasn't jumping down your throat, it's just why do people have to come in a thread and say "use the search feature". I did use the search feature, and I saw some posts on it. Now, I made a thread dedicated exclusively to them. Excuse me if you were offended, not my intent.

Never really paid much attention to Mogwai. I dunno. They just never "clicked" like BoC did.

I find they complement a lot of other Warp artists I listen to. Squarepusher is just pure insanity. Aphex Twin is stupid, joking fun. And on the polar opposite of Boards of Canada is Autechre. I think I've got a CD somewhwere with just a mix of Autechre/BoC because I find the stark contrast interesting.

If you're into Mogwai and BoC, try out A Silver Mt. Zion and Do Make Say Think.

I love autechre. Also very fond of every other artist you mentioned.... I recently purchased "Lover's Acid" by Luke Vibert, awesome stuff indeed.

Ah, Mr. Vibert! :D

Sadly, I haven't invested as much in him. Pretty sure I've got an old Wagonchrist CD laying about, but it might have been chucked out a while ago. Got it back before I was really into electronic music.

Mogwai is a must, sir! The latest album, Mr. Beast is an excellent album, but I'd recommend Come On Die Young

If you want to get songs before you buy an album, though, get 'Superheroes of BMX' or 'Travelling is Dangerous'. Amazing stuff.

I also agree with DeusEx on the recommendation of A Silver Mt. Zion. And while we're at it, Explosions in the Sky, too.

Sorry for the hi-jack. :o

"Just relax, and enjoy this pleasant adventure. Here you are, secure and protected, in this, your special place, letting my voice flow into your mind. There's no need to concentrate. Just gently as you go. Suggestions are going into your unconscious mind. Open yourself up to the greater wisdom and understanding. So, now, letting the sound of my voice reach the inner, healthy, receptive centre of yourself. See yourself now in your imagination; and you are being tranformed in a positive healthy way, so you are programming your unconscious mind, gaining new insight into your directions, in the future. Allow yourself to be more aware of your pathway through this life. [Enjoy all that you can.(?)] As the days go by, you are programming your mind, and you are allowing this to happen. These things are happening day by day, just as I tell you they are happening, wherever you are. See this happening. Allow it to become part of you; more and more happily, more and more surely, more and more powerfully, each day. When it is necessary, you can program yourself, be able to dream the information you require. This awareness will come back to you at your own rate. It will never be more than you can cope with. This guidance will help show you the way. This will only happen if you choose it will be so. Ready, now ..."
