Bob Ross game in development.

PLEASE SAY THIS ISNT An APRIL FOOLS JOKE!

It's not. It has been confirmed by many sources. Here is a post I made about it on our forums:

As you are aware several sources have confirmed that the Bob Ross painting game is indeed in development for both the DS and the Revolution. At first I thought this was a pretty dumb idea. LOL I admit it. However I have thought about it more and have come to the conclusion that this game if done properly could be a huge hit and even a game that I would consider picking up. At first I didn't recognize Bob Ross but after watching this video:

Just like everyone else I now remember watching his show on PBS. :D Here is a sample of his work:

So could this be a huge hit with Nintendo fans and new gamers? Well it really is going to depend on how well the controller is used for this game. For example will it be as complex to the point where we can actually mix colors? Will we be able to press down on the canvas with the paint brush at diferent levels of pressure to create thicker or thinner paint strips? Will the paint actually wear off the paint brush so that you have to dip it into the palette again? To me I would want a full fledge paint simulator that would be as close to reality as possible. This could be used as for fun or for a tool of training without having to buy the expensive supplies. Of course you could save your work at any time and reload it if you made a mistake (only thing going against realistic). Another neat possibility is the ability to send your images over the wifi connections to your friends or whatever. How about some form of multi player where you have a contest to see who can draw the best version of a certain picture? As you can see this game does have a lot of potential but it is going to depend on how well the game is developed. It would also be nice for downloadable content where you could download new images to paint of maybe paint locations. For example download a level where you are on the deck of a beach house overlooking the ocean with the waves flowing back and fourth. Another might set you in an old mansion next to a fire place. Perhaps it is lightening and thundering outside. This would of course help create a more immersive environment. I don't expect to see all of these cool features but these are just some of the possibilities with Nintendo's Revolution.

You know it's funny. The more we draw closer to E3 the more I realize just how big of a Revolution Nintendo's system is. I never even thought of a paint game until I saw this Bob Ross news story. I have always been for big franchises like Mario, Zelda, Metroid, etc and I still am but you know these new fresh ideas are very intriguing. I only hope this Bob Ross game is really as good as it could be. Just because it's an interesting idea doesn't mean that the game will be awesome. I really hope they use some ideas like the ones I thought of above.

A Yesterdays Joke Is Todays Reality.

So depending on how good the Bob Ross game ends up being I may end up buying it. It has potential and I believe that it could sell in the millions. May be a slow start but after awhile people might pick up on it. Other games like Brain Age started selling slow only to become a major success. Matt is very excited about 3rd party support for the Revolution. He claims that he knows about a lot of these games and has even hinted at a sword fighting game. Again a first person sword fighting game could be awesome. The Revolution as weak as it is has more potential then both the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 and with Iwata confirming that there are still several hardware secrets that have not been unveiled I believe that Nintendo fans are going to be in for a major treat come E3.

Fake :( Just look at the cover and the image in the IGN article D:

lol@ cover...

"Bob Ross: The Game, rated M for mature"

this generation needs the smooth voice of Bob Ross.

<3

So is it real or not? I mean, it's not just on the IGN site... And those images are supposed to be mockups I'm sure, not pretending to be real.

This is the most difficult "April Fools or Not" situation I've ever come across.

By that logic, none of the Revolution games are real. It might not even play games... since we haven't seen any of them.

It says nothing about the authenticity of the story. It's a mock-up. We don't actually know what the Revolution game boxes will look like. Also, the article mentions that they don't even have a publisher yet... further excusing the lack of proper promotional artwork since publishers tend to do the promotion for the game. Then, there's still the issue that they can't release any screenshots/videos to prove it's real because the Revolution games are being kept under wraps.

I'm not saying it's not a joke. That's still a possibility. I'm just more inclined to believe it because it's exactly the kind of game Nintendo would encourage from developers. If it didn't feature Bob Ross I wouldn't have any doubts. That's the only odd part. Still, even that isn't too far-fetched. It would help bring the game to the somewhat older, non-gamer crowd that watched Bob Ross on PBS.

It's also being displayed on the official Bob Ross website so if it is an April fools joke they have really gone very far into planning and executing this prank. Thats why I am leaning towards this not being fake.

I just watched that video. I can't believe I spent my entire childhood never once seeing such a wonderful show. This guy is amazing at painting, and it's so relaxing listening to him.

I love how he talks to his paintings. I saw one episode of his show where he spent five minutes talking about all the animals that lived in some forest he was painting.

The gameplay ideas are...interesting. Clearly non-gamers are being targeted, but I don't know if it's actually going to sell. Sure, the guy has a cult following, but will they actually drop money on a game, or will they just go out and actually paint?
More likely it could be used to provide lessons for people wanting to paint in real life. It would really fit with Nintendos new idea of attracting non-gamers.

After all, if you could learn some of the techniques to make decent looking paintings on a medium that allows for nearly infinite experimentation without any added costs (paints, canvas, room set up for painting, of course all cost money) then I could imagine it would prove very useful for many.

Seriously, does anyone have any other videos of Bob Ross painting. I used to watch him every Saturday morning and to this day I think Bob Ross is the greatest human being ever, R.I.P. Bob ;(

Anyways, if this game has anywhere near the soothing approach that his show did then I will consider buying it.

LOL yea he kicked ass. They used to have little short paint sessions of him on MTV for this brief period of time when MTV was cool. Anyone else remember those?

What? The brief periods when MTV was cool? No, I don't remember those.

... but seriously, no. I have never watched MTV on a regular basis.

This was like 15-20 years ago(omg that dated the hell out of me), and I seriously believe that MTV was cool solely because of those funny little Bob Ross segments. You'd have to see it. I wonder if they could be found on the Internet somewhere.
