Bodycount-Announced-OXM_Full-500x707.jpg

Stuart Black promised to reveal his new shooter soon and in the latest issue of OXM UK, he did. In development by the team at Codemasters Guildford and headed by Stuart Black, Bodycount is described as a “spectacular and frankly mental first-person shooter.” Other phrases mentioned include “astonishing,” “insane,” and “the ultimate shooter.”

The game’s being built on the Codemasters EGO engine, seen prior in games like GRID and Operation Flashpoint 2.

And unfortunately, that’s all we know. The announcement was actually leaked on the OXM UK official website. The page was taken down but thanks to Google’s cache (and NeoGAF), we were able to grab hold of what was written. A reveal in the next issue of OPM UK is expected, as well.

It better have some gore and dismemberment ala Soldier of Fortune if it wants to get my attention.

It better have a PC version and DRM that isn't ridiculous if it wants to get my attention.

Ugh, the EGO engine?

I didn't find it impressive at all in the first FPS it's been used in(OFPDR.)

Oh well, time will tell how this turns out.

I wonder how this will actually make me care about it. The image and name look and sound horribly uninspired. But yeah, dismemberment might be cool if that's in there. Might make the difference between a bland generic shooter and a mildly entertaining generic shooter. As Big G said, time will tell.

Dismemberment was in the most recent EGO engine game(OFPDR), you could blow off arms, heads etc, so I see no reason why it won't be in Bodycount.

Nope codemasters is publishing this game. I'm not even sure criterion is involved or if it is just Stuart Black O_o

I only played the demo, but Black was great. If Bodycount has the same feel and a boatload of polish, I might have to buy it.

I feel like an idiot. For some reason I didn't notice Codemasters. I didn't even really read the article I was so excited. Hell, I was led to believe this was being developed by Criterion by the person I got this from. Now that I've actually read it and I see that it isn't I am really disappointed. That's what I get for being overexcited. :(

So the lead dev of BLACK moved to Codemasters with some fellow employees from Criterion and is maling this now?

k

From what I understand, yeah. OP is on drugs.

Alright alright let me get something straight. First time I saw the link I skipped the article and just assume it was being done by Criterion. Then people here mention Codemasters, I read the article instead of looking at the cover art, get confused.

I think this is the last time I go a weekend without sleeping.

ok I cant resist posting this:

Body Count, Body Count.
Body Count, Body Count. (YEAH MUTHA ****AAAAAA!)
Body Count, Body Count.
Body Count, Body Count.
Body Count, Body Count.
Body Count, Body Count, nigga!
Body Count, Body Count.

On the bass I got my main mutha****a called Mooseman.
Layin' the rhythm tracks I got the one and only infamous D-Roc.
On the drums I got the one and only Beatmaster V mutha****a.
On lead guitars I got my nigga Ernie C.
And I'm Ice Mother ****in' T, bitch.

needs more music by Bodycount ..but that's probably not going to happen...

"So one day I found I fell in love
and I brought my girlfriend home
and I introduced her to my mutha and
she smacked me, was a white girl and
I said, "Why momma? Why momma? What did I do wrong?"
You know, I found out my mutha was a evil woman.
She hated Puerto Ricans, Mexicans, Jamaicans,
Indians, Orientals, momma was no good.
I learned to hate my mutha, hate my mutha.
So I got some, ha ha, some lighter fluid, from the corner store
and I put it around her bed, and I set her on fire!
Ha, ha, ha.
Burn momma, burn momma, burn momma, burn bitch
burn, burn, burrrrrn. Ha, ha, ha. Burn you racist bitch!
Ha, ha, ha.
But she wasn't quite dead. She jumped up from the bed
and I grabbed my Louisville Slugger that she had bought
me for my twelfth birthday and I came up behind her and
I hit her, I hit her, I hit her twice. Ha, ha, ha.
Now she was out.
I went into the kitchen
and I got that handy carving knife
that we only use on special occasions like
bullshit Thanksgiving, and I took her and I laid her ol' ......"

I keep reading this as "Boycott Announced: Sucessor to Black" and being incredibly confused as to why people would want to boycott Black's sucessor.

But anyway, a sucessor to the last mainstream gunporn game. Cool. Though I wont be playing it unless it comes to PC, which it won't.

Black had a weird, sorta chunky feel to the movement of your character and the combat. I don't know if I liked it particularly, but I definitely found it interesting. I think with some specific refinements it could be a lot of fun while still feeling pretty unique among FPSes.
