grendel prime ...the Grendel Universe would make a great MMORPG IMHO ..dark, violent, with a rich history that spans hundreds of years

bladerunner: GTA inspired world where you play as Deckard on the trail of replicants

William Gibson's Neuromancer: cyberpunk classic

Frank Miller's Ronin: feudal japan meets future dystopia

Frank Miller's Sin City: what's not too love?

Neuromancer was already made into a game ages ago. It was one of those adventure games where you have to type "look at window" and the like.

It'd be cool to make another game of it, but I'm not sure what kind of game it would be.

Do you mean in theory or reality? Must say I hate a lot of book/comic to game moves. Out of those I've only read Neuromancer, and I doubt the actual book would be fun to play, but something in that universe would be pretty cool. Going into the Matrix and all. :D
And Molly kicked ass.

Link To The Old Game.

ya I agree ..adaptations rarely work but if they give the creators complete control (look at what frank miller was able to achieve with Sin city) it can pretty much ensure that it wont turn out to be another "enter the matrix" or any of the other crappy movie adaptations

btw here's a good article on the stagnation of ideas in gaming

Oh man, I just thought of a great book to turn into a game. I think The Drawing of the Dark by Tim Powers could translate into an excellent, epic gaming experience... if done right. Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure Powers is dead, so it'd be hard to get it right.

when i saw sin city i thought it would make good game material, not the actual storyline, but the atmosphere of the city, similar to that in the thief games, ideal for good plots without making the player seem like the only thing in the game

None of them should be, books - books, game - games, movies - movies. The line needs to be drawn, if you ask me it would ruin them. Games that start off as games come off much better than movies becoming games, or books becoming books. Or something.

Books based on games are really good though. Halo and Resident Evil books come to mind. And I heard the Doom books were pretty good too back in the day.

I seem to recall this topic before, but i think Tad Willliams' "Otherland" series would rule in a game. It's basically a group of individuals who run through virtual reality environments that are hyperrealistic(matrix-like but not modern) to stop the administrator of the virtual reality because he is harming people. One is an amazon environment where the individual is inches tall where danger could come from a caterpillar. Another is an egyptian environment with real egyptian gods. It's just a really awesome series(kinda long), but quite immersive.

yeah, definitely "or something." Sure we can't expect to perfectly translate the universe that our minds create in a book into a game or a movie. It's the screen writer or director/creative director who's imagination brings it to life. Take LOTR, for instance: I never envisioned Strider/Aragorn to look like Viggo Mortenson, but Peter Jackson did. I think that's the wonderful thing about books. You create the world how you see it. I will no doubt receive opposition to this, but i think books are more "unscripted" in a sense than games. You move through a game's environment that's already been created for you. You don't make it up as you go. There isn't as much creativity in playing games.
But saying that, I love video games (almost as much as books)
