Hello folks.

Well, we've been through over a year of this and finally we're seeing the SDK hit the light of day next week (that is, unless of course it gets delayed, but I have my fingers crossed). With that said, full development on all the mods out there is set to begin. We're going to get a great amount of games from Half-Life 2, probably more than the original Half-Life, and I'm here to find talent to help create mine.

Born of War is a class-based first person shooter based upon World War II. Yes, I know all of you will be saying, "Isn't that World War II stuff over done?" Normally, I would say yes, but we're not at that point yet. You can trust me in saying if I thought we were, my team wouldn't be gearing up to begin development on this modification.

Now I'm not going to go through hoops re-stating information that is already on our website. I will, though, give you the link to our near-finished design document (I'm currently in the process of rewriting it, creating images for the game types, and incorporating concept artwork). You can view that here.

I really suggest you also go look at the new website if you're interested, which is also
nearly finished. Here is a list below of the positions we are currently looking for, if you wish to apply, you can do so by emailling myself (j dot bellone at flipsidesoftware dot com), going on the forums and making a thread (http://forums.flipsidesoftware.com). Please include the appropriate information.

Thanks for your time, I wish all the teams good luck! I'll look forward to playing all the modifications that come out of this great game. Thanks to Valve, even if it's over a year late ;).

Somewhat of a second day bump here; someone on another forum asked why the team is small, and it seems we're looking for a lot of people to join right now. Here's the reply:

Not really a whole team, most of those positions are filled by one person. Just listing them for the sake of it.

The design team decided to create a World War II mod because we weren't impressed with anything out there currently. We're all fans of history, especially this particular era, and that just fueled the fire. We're all amongst the movie buffs, book buffs, between the design team we probably own nearly every WW2 related movie/mini-series made in the last twenty years.

But that's the basic reason; we want something we can be proud of, and we saw this genre as not being "furfilled" in our eyes. So we set out to design a game that would do that, make it fun in doing so, and have it look like all those movies we know and love (and that last part is what caused the move from UT2004 engine to Source, even though it took awhile to release).

We like small teams because we want quality work, not quantity. It doesn't matter to us if it takes a year to release a beta version. Of course we hope it won't take a year, but if that's how long it takes to get the level of quality we expect, then so be it. None of us expect it to be nearly that long to get the artwork done with a proper team formed. That's something that I think will set us apart from the other mods in this genre. We're not looking to rush anything, we want it perfect.

Hmm DoD pretty much successfully covered this area, it'll be a real challenge for u guys to surpass it. Just by looking at your class descriptions, i smell DoD...

And I'm sure Medal of Honor covers DoD, but they're still making it.
Even if there is a similar game to be released, it would still provide it's team experience in game development, and what better way to achieve that than by making a game on a theme they like?
Besides, diversity is never shunned, is it? :)

Good luck with your game. I hope it gets through all right, and fairly recieved by the community.
