It's nice to see that, despite the fact that he's so grotesquely rich, he's not without generosity. He could conceivably give more, but that's not entirely the point. Bravo indeed.

I especially liked the Carnegie quote in the article:
"He who dies rich dies disgraced."

He gave $750m and your saying he should of given more? Some people are hard to please.. x.x

Who knows? Maybe Bill Gates' almost evangelistic approach to eradicating illness may yet be able to CTRL-ALT-DEL some of the world's biggest killers.

There's a joke too!

"...his plan to give away most of his fortune during his lifetime."
Well hes a much more generous person than me, is all I can say. And Im not sure whether I find that joke lame or funny.

wow thats awesome. I have much respect for bill now. it kinda makes me feel bad that I pirated his software.

Same here... Till I remember that windows xp costs as much as a low end computer alone.

Not to mention the countless jokes hes given us, the BSOD, Ctrl+Alt+Del and his cameo in South Park The Movie, to name but a few.

Yes, you see the emphasis was on could, conceivably and not entirely the point.

Ditto.

You should be glad he gave money in the 1st place. :)

Cheap git. I gave $751 million. To myself. But the cheque bounced.

yeah i just cant wait till BSOD appears .

Him giving 750m is like me having $1 and giving .10

That is why he should have given more, but bravo to him anyways.

Wow...very nice of him to do that.

Hopefully it will help find a cure for cancer and aids.

He hasn't just given $750million, i think in total, him and his wife have given roughly $27billion to charities and funds for a host of different causes.

I think he should put all his money towards space exploration. If all the rich people and NASA and some big companies got together we might finally get off this rock.
The nearest stars are only a couple light years away. With new propolsion systems at slower than light speed travel they could probably be reached in under a century.
The sun is essentially an unlimited supply of energy, and once off earth, there are huge amounts of mineral resources floating around. All we need is something to kick start it.

I believe he gave about 20 billion away to charity. On top of that, he's not planning to give some huge insane heritage to his family after he dies, but spend most of it on charity.

Call me crazy but for the moment I'm perfectly happy with people donating money to practical solutions to current problems. Wild goose chases through the stars do not a helthy populous make.

Yeah I saw that - I think that's fantastic, I really do.
