Brightness issue

Due to age, my monitor is a bit dark therefore I have gamma turned up in the ati control panel to my desired setting. But everytime I play a game, these settings go back to default and I'm stuck with the dark desktop again. I have to open the display control panel and adjust the gamma again. I have these settings saved in the control panel but they just dont seem to work after I play a game. This happens with most games. All valve games do this but Pirates for example does not. My card is a 9800 pro AIW using the 4.12 betas. This was a problem with older drivers as well. Anyone know of a fix?

when you're cranking up the gamma in the control pannel, you have the option to change the desktop gamma, and fullscreen 3d gamma using a dropdown menu right under the words "set collor corection for:" just change to fullscreen 3d to change 3d gamma.

i used to have brightness problems too and played around with a few programs before someone pointed to this site and suggested i try it...i had nothing to lose since none of the other programs were working and gave PowerStrip a try and let me say.. i am so thankful to the person who introduced me to this program.

i've now had it for 4-5 months and no problems whatsoever.
now, this program does have alot of features.. so it took me a while before i found the settings that suited me... so if initially u find that its not helping.. give it time and play around with the many settings.

Hmm...forgot to check this thread after it was gone from the first page. My problem isn't the 3d gamma. Game birghtness is fine and I can change it from the in game menus if I want. The problem is that the desktop birghtness is reset after playing games.

Dr. Freeman thanks for the link. I'll give that program a try as this is getting very annoying.
