I heard on the hardocp forums that nvidia is adding brilinear optimizations in its newer drivers. They said that brilinear optimizations would allow up to 25% performance increas with AA/AF on.
Can someone ellaborate on this for me.
And when is it going to be released.

Do you mean trilinear or bilinear? Or do you REALLY mean brilinear?

Either way who wants to bet that these "optimisations" are going to make NVIDIA look even more shit and run about 0.1% faster?

*ati fanboy alert*since when do nvidia cards look like shit? have you even seen the 6800 line?

If you can notice the difference then that is the time to complain (or just not use it if it can be disabled).
Their optimizations right not aren't that bad. They really took the quality down with the FX because they had so much performance to gain but we are talking the 6800 series here.

Some think it is brilinear while others claim it's trilinear. I call it adaptive filtering personally. ;)
If you want, read "ATI's Trilinear Filtering Chatlog' here.

ATI has done Adaptive Aliasing since the 8500, which is different levels depending on the angle. You don't need to smooth the edges on a flat line now do you? Why take the performance hit then. Similar idea except it's with filtering between mip maps.

Hasn't NVidia featured Brilinear since the 5900?
Of course although in their last two driver releases you could turn it off. Before that you couldn't (and for FX users that is terrible) and hopefully with these new optimizations they will leave it so.

I have not seen a 6800 but every other card gets more crap looking with each release. For relatively small performace gains. Ask yourself: At 200fps do you NEED more? To trade image quality for performance?

if you havn't looked at it, don't bitch about it.

In case you hadn't noticed I have not said anything about the 6800 itself. Only the NVIDIA drivers.

Yes but..
To me though, its not a matter of what I can see so much as the fact that this changing of textures is happening behind the users back. I have selected maximum quality on my £400 graphics card and I fully expect it to have Max Quality…not lesser quality than a much cheaper competitiors product.
That's exactly what I think. But I have an ATI card anyway...and I'm glad I made that choice.
