I was just wondering if anyone here would like it if we brought back the Weekly Modeling Contest. The reason why it was stopped before was becuase no one really bothered with it, but it seems like theres a lot more modelers now. But remember, if you want it back, and they bring it back, you have to use it then, dont waste it like last time.

(an admin will have to approve of this first though)

I voted sure bring it back.. providing enough people want it, it has a chance I guess.

ill, have a pitch in at it next time :), so i voted bring it back

Im Working On And Rpg Right Now Ill Submit It To The Modeling Contest.

Cap*

ill be in it and i will win... i will be the winnar. lol im seirous ill put some stuff in tho

Well, its a start, gonna need a few more though to make it a worthwhile thing.

May as well. Me won the first one but didnt get any credit from it. It sucked.

how long would you guys want per contest? a week, two weeks?

What kind of contest would you want, just straight modeling, or texturing aswell

Stuff like that we'll need to know if your serious about wanting one.

not texturign lol, I suck at texturing... hmmm

If there's enough interest, could have two comps

modeling one

then the winner of that modeling comp has his/her object be the center of a texturing comp, where people have to create the best texture for it.

maybe a third for setting up a cool scene with what was done in the previous two.

I voted no if your wondering who did. Its a good idea. but the modelling community isn't big enough. Also last time the ideas for modelling where quite bad.

Would it have a poly limit? i love making stupidly detailed robots :) *coff with extremly bad textures coff* :(

if you're going to have a comp, actually do something good....

if your going to have a compeition do something like this:

http://www.cgnetworks.com/challenge/machineflesh/winners.php

Not actually give away very expensive prices. But the actual idea behind the compeition.

Any hl2 related bullshite imo with just be boring. something like.

"make a new hl2 vehicle for gordon" < urrr.... no....
"make a futuristic crowbar with as many features as u can think of" < boring...

Aye, the Modelling contest didn't really hit off, due to lack of support and community.
I'd love there to be one, as it would give me the motivation to work again on my 3d work rather than my graphic Design work, for once in along time...

I suggested things like that the first time round but there wasn't enough interest for none HL2 related competitions

lmao, well.. Thats one way to put it :D

Newtek sometimes have good competitions on its forums. One I remember was a model people had to texture, was some really good entries, they've probably had loads since, it feels like it was over two years ago now lol.

Which gave me the idea of linking a modeling, texturing and perhaps animating or scene setting competitions together.

A Texturing Contest would be good, I remember the days when Cold Fusion was still run by ScareCrow and he had that huge Coldfusion modelling and skinning contest, which involved full character design, weapon design, and skinng contest for both of them, all as seperate contests but all based off of each other. If i remember it was a big success.

Worth giving it a shot then, gonna need a few more people showing interest though.

Wasnt really a compotition but what ever happend to that design a room thing, i seem to remeber loads of people making all sorts of rooms.

design a room?

Only thing I can remember off hand like that was the attempts to do 3D scenes of screenshots of the prison. Or do you mean something else.

it was my pet project the only one that got sent in was from HiroProtaganist.... unfortunatly :(

Although i do have all the files for it still

oh i rememeber, it was going to be a big tall building and each level would be someone elses room right?

Sounds like a really cool idea actually.. Should consider trying it again?

I would certainlt try it again, I enjoyed modelling the roof for it, and hiro did the ground floor level...

If ye want to start it again Fenric, twould be ok, and i'd see if Sidewinder could talk to hiro and get premision of him to use his base level as well......

Drum up enough interest, make a thread and i'll sticky it.

Ichi, the only problem with doing stuff like the MachineFlesh is that most people here arent used to even designing their own concept, let alone modelling it. plus, that contest went on for about 3 mothns didnt it. if we had a contest on here, it would have to run for about 3-4 weeks to get enough submissions and of a good enough quality to make it worthwhile. but if youre then gonna run it for that long, you'll want as many people involved as possible...which means you need a really good topic that everyone can attempt.

...it's really hard to keep a competition going :rolling:

PS. the more i read Ichi's post, the more i tend to agree with him, although i voted to bring it back.

ok will do....

/me misses his mod powers ;(
You were gone for too long :p

PM Munro see what he thinks. I'm sure Badger has got over the OES thing and put it in the past by now.

random.hero. Could always do the above, linking it with concepts at the same time..

eg: Art section does a concept competition, winner of that becomes the base for the modeling competition. Then the winner of that becomes the base for the texture competition and so on.

yeah, that could work quite well, although im sure some people would like the options of designing their own concept. maybe make the art comp an optional concept, and then allow the skinners to choose any of the models submitted to skin, or possibly one of the top 3.

i like the building idea i would love to make my own room and put it in the building that would be off the hook.

I am working on getting my pet project back up and running...
Will find the original models and egt permision from their owners and then start the thread..... :cheese:

sounds good, as long as it not a gun or human model. the mod im working on with clarky and onions has some concepts which could provide a good contest, and we do have several areas where more models would be funky.

You mean get the community to do loads of work on your mod.. I bet onions thought that one up eh? :D

Would be cool to see Stone's Pet Project come back, that was how I got to know him, even though I'm useless at modelling, I just look at other people's at say "oooh".
Stone was going to model an Overlook-esque kitchen and I remember getting lots of screenshots of the film for reference, but then there wasn't enough interest in the project and work stopped on it and Stone would never show me the kitchen until it was finished, which it never was.
The modelling competition seems a good idea too, if it is run right.
