Bring Mike Harrington back.

No, the game was awesome, its the ****ing reports of people still have stut-stut-stuttering issues after a fix was apparantly released. Something is wrong in Belleview.

Several people I know, several threads on several forums with about 100,000 views, etc.

I think Jesus Lincoln meant "Who is Mike Harrington?"...

Wasn't he the co-director of VALVe with Gabe?

i think he's referring to the fact Mike did a lot of the last minute bug-catching for HL1.
read "the final hours of half life" over at gamespot.

really though, all that we can really get as a fix for the stuttering is little brief silent pauses with a "loading..." sign onscreen instead.

until everyone has vidcards with lots of RAM, or DirectX and vidcards use virtualized texture memory, you can't have a game as good-looking as half-life2 without uploading a huge chunk of texture data everytime u enter a new area. that takes a little while....

pausing the sound somehow before these uploads and especially before autosaves would help though... i only really get bothered by it at autosave points, 'cos that takes a few seconds.

uhm i dont think the problem is in the hardware for some. i have a radeon 9800 pro 256, and 1 gig of ram, and i have the stuttering problem. but the stutring failed to ruin the game for me :).

I think I read somewhere that mike decided to sail around the world with his wife, can anyone else confirm this?

Smart move, the minute its ready, bugger off where you can't be called back into the office :)

The load times and sound stuttering are a legitimate complaint, it would have been nice if valve could have fixed that pre-release. That said, even though they're annoying, they're not completely horrible, and my sound only does a couple skips on those save points and that's it. The fact that that specific problem is my biggest complaint with this game just shows how amazingly excellent it is.

I think he probably used a boat instead.
