grim weather, binge drinking and yob culture is all that keeps us going. we drive on the left side of the road and speak like we can't be assed with anything aswell

each day i pick up the paper, all i read is misery about how some bloke got glassed in a shite house of a nightclub or some granny got run over by a super rapist-paedo farmer on the run or whatever you want

i was speaking to some lass who's living/working over here but comes from perth in aussy originally and she agreed with me that every bugger here is so uptight. life goes by too quick here, its manic

be nice if we all just calmed down a bit, took a deep breath and put the 8 pack of kestrel super lager down in exchange for a nice cup of tea and a biscuit

thats another thing while i'm here, i don't think theres anything better than a sit down and a cuppa. balls to going out, bit of music and some tetleys goes down a treat for me

Britain isn't that bad. Yes, we have chavs, one of the worst governments in the developed world, the most expensive housing in europe and so many immigrants that the ingredients on chocolate bars are printed in english and polish, but its not that bad. Seriously, just be glad you were born in the developed world, all countries have problems.

As for immigration, it is the one thing that has sustained our economy the past 10 years whilst France, Germany and Italy have suffered..
 
House prices here are f*cking stupid. I liv in the midlands, and where I am (In a "so-so" area) a 3 bedroom semi will cost you ?350,000. I mean, wtf!

Actually our economy works on artificial economic booms built on cheap easy credit lending, followed be recessions when the credit runs out. The eurozone is currently economically much healthier than we are.

Yes Britain has been in a state for a long time, but I love it for its history and its music, British music owns all over countries music im afraid, apart from our annoying indy scene going on at the moment, but give it time and that will die, hopefully never to return.

We have the scum that is chavs, but all countries have these sort of problems, all western goverments are shit, its really hard to find a decent girl but you just gotta look for the good things. I mean I live in Manchester, and I love it, the places to go, the opportunities, the accent.

Atm my big worry is house prices. It's horrendous how expensive houses are (Unless you move up north where they have no teeth ;) )
 
i love how i've sparked utter outrage by using 'innit'. its not something i go around saying in the real world, i just couldn't be assed to type properly cos it was about 3 in the morning or some shit

there are some things i do like about britain. hollands pies come to mind

oh and llama, we used to have teeth up north until they all got knocked out by chavs. plus i remember someone telling me that in the area i used to live in lancashire, the burnley, blackburn and accrington area that the gene-pool is the most shallow in the country. thats something to be proud of. if i ever have a wikipedia page, that'll be in it under trivia
 
I like Britain, I've been to Scotland, England, Wales and Norn Iron if we include it. England has some really beautiful countryside, I went on a holiday to the Lakeside district when i was younger and it was beautiful, ditto for Scotland too. Most English people I know are sound if slightly laid back/reserved. Also Britain has a HELL of alot of OAP's, way more than Ireland.

In my experience, it's people down south who have no teeth. Up North where I'm originally from, the Fluoridation of water has provided everyone with shiney white teeth.

House prices are to tumble soon, what with immigration and tea causes cancer so hold on to your boats.
 
The biggest problem we have it that the government have done nothing to curb the insanity of the UK housing market by regulating it and actively stepping in and stopping the banks from lending out as much money as they have (it's all their fault). Presently 97% of the UK housing market is out of the reach of first time buyers, because the whole thing has become an investment game by financial speculators, from individuals through buy to let, or professional landlords. The problem is, that a property is only really worth what people are prepared to pay for it. It's an illusionary house of cards that ultimately is going to collapse. Good news if you are looking at buying a house (there are going to be plenty of repossession properties going cheap), or aren't intending to move anytime in the next 10 years or so, and aren't hoping to borrow money against your property, not so good news if you've mortgaged yourself to the hilt to buy a 1 bed or studio flat if that was the best you could afford (your going to be living there for a while in negative equity). Right now the UK housing market is about 50 - 55% over priced. With inflation as low as it is, it's effectively going to take 10 years for salaries to catch up, and that's assuming the market stays still. It's an absolute joke tbh. If it wasn't for both my parents being on in years I've of left the UK for overseas a long time ago.

With regard to the chav issue, that's a resultant of a having too liberal a social security system. Social security was always meant to be a safety net, where in if people fell on hard times it would provide them with the means to support themselves and their families until they could get back on their feet financially. Where things went wrong is that the state agreed to pick up the tab for any children people have whilst on social security. It's one thing to provide a financial safety net for people with children or expecting children who fall on hard times, it's entirely another to have a system that pays for the children they conceive whilst on it. Don't get me wrong I'm all for people having the right to have children, but they should only do so when they themselves possess the financial means to raise them. The state shouldn't subside them. The hard truth is, that to get on in life you do need financial backing and support from your family, and unless you've got that it's pretty much a certainty your not going to amount to much, that's the sad reality for the majority of children brought up on the welfare state. Sure there are people who drag themselves out of the pit, but they are the exception rather than the rule.

Anyway, yeah, you got all that, but on the other hand you have got pretty much a monopoly on the world's greatest comedians. Sweden's got even lousier weather, about the same amount of racists, fewer pedos (Or at least less scare-mongering about pedos) but almost no good comedians.
 
I always thought immigration raised house prices. Immigration = more people = more demand for housing = higher house prices. I don't know if it's entirely responsible for raising house prices, but it probably doesn't help. Even though the immigrants are helping build new houses, they can't be building them as fast as the population is increasing, can they?
 
I agree with the OP. I hate britain and plan to move to america after uni.

The UK is insanely over populated and has been for many years (see previous post about stupid social security system). The Eastern European exodus is just more icing on a cake already made of sugar. Personally as long as people want to come to the country and work I'm all for it. I'd rather have people with a good work ethic come here, than ones who'll do anything but pay their way tbh. There are a couple of Poles in my office and they are both excellent workers.

As a question from me, if 97% of buyers are priced out of the market, where are they all going? Why hasn't the market collapsed laready from a lack of anyone being able to afford housing?
 
I'm off to Australia ASAP. I hear they have a skills shortage so it's easy to get in if you can do something.

I don't mind the developers who are contributing to the price hikes losing money on their investments, but why would you gloat about the average person trying to get a home losing money?

Ah, gotcha. Still, the "Daily Mail defence" is all too often used in the incorrect context - as if accusing someone of reading the Daily Mail is an instant debate-winner.

In any case, it's little different to picking up the Guardian and reading about how all motorists are evil, planet-killing, kitten-slaughtering monsters, America is the Great Satan, vicious criminals are just misunderstood souls who had a bad upbringing and need love and respect not punishment, and how noble Islamic freedom fighters were killed by the brutal terrorists of the 22nd infantry, Great Satanic Army. :D
