Hi,

What are your thoughts on the policing here in Britain. I was discusted the other day i was reading an article in the paper that a man who drove through a puddle on the road, was stopped & fined by police for £150 & received 3 points on his license. I think the police think they can make any rule & we should abide by it. What do you think?

Welcome to Police State Britain.

Where the innocent get punished, and the chavs get away scott-free.

u get people who get speeding tickets about £80 fine thats it, sometimes they get a warning, yet this guy dint even get that. He was banged smack in the face with a fine & points. So as i see it the police think that splashing some-1 with water is now more dangerous than sepeeding, i hate this police force.

I found the Police Driving Offences here
This offence is appropriate when the driving amounts to a clear act of incompetence, selfishness, impatience or aggressiveness. There must, however, also be some inconvenience to other road users, for example, forcing other drivers to move over and/or brake as a consequence. Examples of conduct appropriate for a charge of driving without reasonable consideration are:

flashing of lights to force other drivers in front to give way;
misuse of any lane to avoid queuing or gain some other advantage over other drivers;
unnecessarily remaining in an overtaking lane;
unnecessarily slow driving or braking without good cause;
driving with un-dipped headlights which dazzle oncoming drivers;
driving through a puddle causing pedestrians to be splashed;
driving a bus in such a way as to scare the passengers.
Note that you must decide which version of the offence to charge as the section creates two separate offences and there is no alternative verdict provision in the Magistrates/Youth court. (R-v-Surrey Justices, ex parte Witherick [1932] 1 K.B. 450).

Look, its not real it didnt happen.

The police don't make the laws, the government does. The police just enforces them.

And they do so at their discretion. All of those offenses are ticketable in the correct context. They're essentially reckless driving charges.
So the question is whether the guy did it accidently or was a jerk and did it on purpose. Also, who gets a ticket and then goes to the news about it?

Policing here in Britain is shit.

Have you considered the driver's attitude or behaviour beyond the extent of the charge? It's unlikely that he would get the fine if he wasn't seriously inconveniencing other people through his driving, but seems to me there are more forces at work than just the black and white print
