Brothers in Arms preview at Gamespot

It looks good but I highly doubt it will live up to what it claims it will.

based on what?

Is the exact engine they use some sort of government secret?

It really reminds of Source. A number of reasons:

- The gritty realistic feel of the graphics
- It has HDR rendering
- It has soft shadowing (OK, not too special, but still, it's a similarity)
- Screenshots like these seem to have a 3D skybox. I don't know if it's a concept Valve invented.
- Gearbox developed two games (Blue Shift, Op4 and partially CZ) for Valve, so logically they have a good relationship with them and they'd be the first to hear of a new engine.
- It's developed in secret for 3 years. That could be because it couldn't be revealed before HL2
- The Gamespot article speaks of situational AI and Source has what they called contextual AI. Comes down to the same thing. Other articles also speak of soldiers who know when to retreat and advance, that they take cover etc. Barricade anyone?
- The focus on the fact that your fellow soldiers are not disposable objects, but you'll get a bond with them. Isn't this something that Source is perfect for?

EDIT:

Oh yeah, we're definitely talking Source here:
Soldiers will have a wide range of facial expressions. You can even see their eyes track you as you move around, and you can see when they bite their lips anxiously.

Eyes tracking you around? If this isn't Source, Valve can sue them for plagiarism (just kidding for the people who will take this up too seriously)

I don't like the fact it's in cross platform developement, Xbox ruins everything it touches.

I don't think the screenshots look very good and I don't think you can tell if there in source or not, we will have to wait for the PC screenshots to decide that.

If it is in source i would have thought they would be boasting about it, it would be a good way of getting extra publicity.

Team Fortress 2: Brothers In Arms ?

Could it be.. ?

TF2: Brotherhood in arms

So it's not TF2 ;)

But these are PC screens mrchimp, because some clearly have HDR and that's a DX9 only feature and the Xbox has a DX8 GPU.
HL2 looks better, but with some FSAA this could look very pretty too.

battlefield has these types of facial expressions. Now if it sayed it has lipsynching, NOW your talkin source.

also some of the screenshots ive seen of close up of faces didnt look all that great. at least compared to what 'the source' has produced.
