Using Nero 6 Ultra Edition, I'm getting buffer underrun errors at 12X speed. I don't understand, since my system is fairly fast:

Athlon XP 2800+
Gig-o-RAM
7200 rpm HDD

The CDRW drive is a sony CRX160E (fairly old, but should still work)

I've never really been able to burn at top speed with it, and I'm sick of burning at 8x. I keep my disks defragged, and I'm not doing anything else while I burn. What else could it be???

Is your CDRW drive on the same IDE channel as your HDD? Are you low on free physical memory?

I have had a similar issue in the past.
My 48X burner would get the error unless I set it to 32x or 24x.
It didn't happen after I reinstalled and reconfigured how my CDburner was connected to my PC. I think I removed a harddrive and put it on the same IDE channel as my DVDROM but set it as the master. Don't recall as it was my old PC.

It could be a number of things. I would check to see it is setup as a UltraDMA.
