My limit is ?300. Before you say: "OMG mellish you cheap bastard," sadly it's all I got. If you know any parts that will come into my budget that are good or ok please tell me. And also if you don't think it's worth building a pc at such a low budget please tell.
Edit: Wtf a pound sign turns up as a question mark.

What components and peripherals do you already have? Can you keep the case, keyboard/mouse, hard drives, monitors etc?

I'm can't exactly take away the family monitor etc. so no, sorry.

?300 for everything, including a monitor?

Ouch... maybe if you find some good deals for parts on Ebay or something, but even then it seems unlikely.

The Monitor is the main point of fall, depending, of course, on how good you want it to be. Mine isn't very good, but it made up i think at least a quarter of the total price of my PC when i built it, and i was in the same situation as you.

To be honest, with that amount of cash it'll be difficult to get any sort of super PC, but i assume you're more after something that can play games that are about a year or so old, or by valve.

It all depends on how much you intend to spend on each individual part, since some things may be more important to you than others, for example your graphics card or cpu.

Heh, I could just borrow a really old keyboard mouse and monitor from my dad work.

Either that or see if any of your friends have old stuff hanging around. Check the classifieds (or whatever you guys call them over there) and see if someones selling a cheap monitor. I bought a couple CRT monitors off of college students awhile back for 10 bucks, and another for 30 bucks.

If not, then for 450 bucks, you're not going to find much in the way of a whole PC.

save up to at least 450lbs and you'll have some stretching room.

You haven't really said what it is you're building the PC for... fact is, you're not going to be playing even two year old games at anything but medium/low settings with a ?300 PC... ?300 may just about cover a reasonable Motherboard / Processor / GFX card combo, but expect to have to get lucky on second hand or clearance stock and scrape everything else a PC needs together from... I don't know. Freecycle or something (actually, if you're fine 'settling' for CRTs, plenty of 17" or so monitors pop up on Freecycle all the time, along with Keyboards, Mice and other no-thrills peripherals).

If you're just building a PC for the sake of having your own PC (for net use, old, old games), ?300 is fine. But then you can put together a functional, 2003/4 level PC for about ?100 tops I would have thought.

For ?300, you could get any of the main consoles, and it's the optimal time to get one really....

If you dont need a super nice parts such as speakers and keyboard.. go down to you good will store ( if you've got one ). I find all kinds of cheap crap that i use for putting together mediocre computers for extra people at lan parties. I found a really nice flat CRT monitor there for 10 bux. i find speakers there all the time. keyboards are a dime a dozen.. and some times you can find decent mice too.. but un likely. some times you can find computer there.. but they are rarely any good. ( they just assume a working computer is worth a lot despite its hard ware specs.. they have pentium II's for like 150 bux o.O )

I got yelled at by a lady once working there for taking apart one of the computer to see what kinda specs it had.. the lady could barely speak English. Honestly i just needed the case though...

I find all kinda good shit there.. found a perfectly good wireless router there for 4 bux.. those things cost from 30-50 bux retail. it worked just fine.. just needed to reset it back to factory settings and was good to go!

so go take a look around and who knows what you'll find.
