So...I'm thinking of getting a new PC which will basically keep me going for 2 years.

I was thinking of getting a Q6600. Good choice?
A 8800GTS 320MB. Yay or nay? I'll be using a 19" 1280 x 1024 screen for some time.
2GB DDR2 667mhz RAM
Suggest a motherboard and power supply please. :)

Motherboard: Gigabyte DS3P or one of the Asus PK5, atleast a p35 mainboard.
PSU: http://www.jonnyguru.com/forums/showthread.php?t=103
I would get atleast 600 watt PSU.

I would get pc6400 800mhz ram, because that q6600 is most likely going to be OC'ed to 3ghz, and thats the top 667 will go while 800 can go to 3.6, and it's always better to have some room.

Also as case I recommend the Antec Ninehundred
as CPU cooler I recommend the Tuniq tower 120/ Sunbeam Tower 120

The VGA card is more then enough for that res, but if you buy a monitor with higher res I would go for either the GTS 640mb or the ATI 2900XT.

As far as HDD go's look at this review, it's reviewing a samsung drive but the performance ofm ultiple drives is listed. The hitachi deskstar T7K500 seems to do very well overall.

First, I'm not going to overclock it. Secondly, I am not upgrading the monitor in a while.

What about the 8600GT?

stay with the 8800gts 330 i have one works fine then later maybe another and run 2 in sli

Offcourse you are, it's childlishly easy to get it at that speed, and the increase in speed is enormous.
And the 8600 sucks monkey balls, only buy it if you plan to upgrade in november when the Nv 9800 comes out.

You can't have SLI on a P35 mainboard, skarrob. I agree fully with Gray Fox. And I think you will overclock eventually when you need the cpu power and find out how easy it is.

By the way, you might as well stick to your x1900gt till the newer nvidia cards come out. And by that time all of the previous mentioned will be different. There will be the new quad core cpus from intel and a new mainboard chipset (x38).

Yeah but how much is that going to cost? D:

I have a gigabyte s775, and it has served me well for some time, and is an ideal board as I can upgrade to a q6600 and the end of this month.

btw I also have a 8800gts 320, but I'll probably be upgrading that to something bigger at the end of this month

Wait what psycho has a x1900 gt! Holy shit, how young is your pc actually?

A year. Epic luls.

I was thinking of upgrading in the near future. 3-6 months maybe.

CPU: AMD X2 4200+
GFX: X1900GT
RAM: 1GB DDR2 667mhz

What does ye recommend for an upgrade?

More RAM is obvious. I want to go for a better GFX card. How big a leap will the 9-series have over the current one?

It's rumoured to be twice as fast as the 8800, so I wouldn't upgrade/buy new system as of yet. You should be running games fine.

I'll know when I get Bioshock. :p
