Im building a computer for my grandparents and this is what I have setup so far:

Motherboard: ECS Nforce4 Socket 939 $68.50

Processor: AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Venice $146

Video Card: SAPPHIRE Radeon X300 $65

Memory: CORSAIR ValueSelect 512MB 184-Pin DDR 50$

Hard Drive: Western Digital Caviar SE 120GB

Case: ASPIRE ATXB2KL-AL $36

So how does all this stuff sound for a grandparents computer? Will that case and power supply be enough for that computer? Please help, any comments or anything is appreciated. Thanks

Dude, you know grandpa loves to game. Why not get him some Dual SLI's? Other then that, it looks good. :)

probably dont need 1. that much memory 2. that good of processor 3. that much hdd space. get them a celeron or a low end p4 on the cheap, a 60 gb hdd, and 256 mb of ram. i'm sure they will appreciate a cheaper computer that will serve their needs as well as that would.

god damn lol thats alot for grandparents do they play games or something, but anyways nice setup will do nicely even though its more of a gaming rig than just a computer

I know this is probably over kill for my grandparents but their current computer is some really slow 800 mhz dell from a long time ago and they just want something current that they wont have to be upgrading for awhile. And as much that you think old people dont use computers my grandparents use it quite often and for a little over 400 bucks for a setup like that, why not?

512 will do them nicely, you want nothing less than 512 these days, 120 gigs is a bit big for them but who knows old people like their digital cameras and its better to have more than less so meh. as for the processor, i'd say that'll do fine, nice alertenative to a p4. just take into mind what their needs are and what they'll be using the computer for, bang for the buck it's a nice pc

Yeah my grandma has her digital camera and loves using it and its just nice to have more space and not need it then not have enough and need it.

I'd say go for the 2.8ghz P4 Duallies. They're really really cheap, and will allow your grandparents to have a bazzilion picture windows open at once, while trying to get rid of the red eye in 4 different pictures, playing "lolypop" and playing Bejeweld.

Theres no way any gaming rig will have an X300.

Personally i think that looks like a decent basic spec pc that will do a great job for general everyday use, plus will be upgradeable if need be. I do think that a better case with 120mm fan cooling at front and back would be better though, mainly because you can get some really quiet 120mm fans, and the grandparents might appreciate the lower noise, but that's just an idea !!

120gb barely costs more than 80gb, so tbh, why not !!!! Nothing wrong with more space for such a small difference in price, can't really do any harm !

Thanks for the suggestions but I just went ahead and got everything, and I did downgrade the hard drive to just a 80Gb cause I figured that if they need more they can always upgrade for cheapo. And as for the case I might suggest that to them down the road in a few months or so depending on how they are doing.

Should get that asrock mobo with the uli chipset. It's REALLy cheap and has good performance. And they probably dont need a pci-e card =P

well hawt damn, can u get me a system like that while ur at it?
