Im soon going to be moving in to a new house with a few mates from university and we have been trying to sort out our internet. We came across a company called bulldog broadband, i havnt heard of this company befor and i just wanted to know what the kind of reputation for the company. Are the good, bad, fast slow? Any help would be awsome.

No idea, but if you can't find a lot of news about them you might want to consider a company that actually has a reputation.

I have Bulldog 4 MEG. £40 a month, with free UK landline calls.

No download caps.

They are also upgrading me to 8 MEG on the 15th June! :D

I've heard very good things about them :) good prices.

And kirovman, most of the best ISPs are the ones that aren't Wanadoo, BT, AOL, Tiscali etc

:)

I mean what company offers uncapped 2mbit for £21.99 a month :P ?

A friend of a friend is signed up to them, and apparently he is very happy. Their deals appear to be great (some of the fastest in the UK for the money). The only thing is that you have to change from your BT line or whatever. These types of deals where you have to change your line appear to offer the best value - kind of a trade-off.

For me it wasn't practical to change my line, and so I ended up with Tiscali. BIIIIIG mistake ;( steer the HELL clear of these guys (apparently the most complained about ISP of the lot). Also before you sign up to Bulldog you might want to try and establish a few things with them - any caps or restrictions, whether their customer service is a call centre in India or something, whether they employ p2p throttling measures (you want a big NO to all of these questions), and whatever else comes to mind.

Bulldog have a contract with BT. Your phone line gets switched over and you don't have to pay the line rental because of this.

I was sceptical at first but I'm happy and only pay £40 a month :D

Then obviously the email saying they are upgrading me to 8Mb was pretty cool :D

EDIT: I checked out the things you mentioned, caps, customer service etc. All good!

Wanadoo - £27.99/mo for capped 1mbit (doesn't mention the size of cap, but I'd expect 30gb)
AOL - £29.99/mo for 2mbit (doesn't mention caps on the site, but I wouldn't be suprised, plus it's AOL.. gl with getting any form of service from them)
BT - £29.99/mo for 30gb capped 2mbit
Tiscali - £19.99/mo for 2mbit, with 15gb cap

Pfffft ISPs with a reputation. They all ****ing suck :)

Damn right. I used 16gb in the past week!

Caps are for people who don't use the net much :P

I don't download as much as I used to but it's nice to know your not restricted isn't it?

The Big Companies (tm) in any market nearly always produce/provide low-quality overpriced products/service, because they rely on their name to sell their products. Joe Sixpack decides to purchase Product X and he defaults to Company Y. So no matter how crap they are they'll still get business.

Bulldog is OK, but not the best.

The best right now in speed vs Price is www.ukonline.net

I m getting 8mbit for £29.99 with 0.5TByte monthly download Limit :D next week.

UKONLINE pwnsss!!!!1111 all UK's ISPs

UKONLINE - 8 MEG, 0.5TByte Limit, £29.99

BULLDOG - 8 MEG, Limitless, £39.99

Meh, I guess I could switch to save myself a tenner, but you've got a limit.

Yes you got a limit that is 500Gbyte.....can you download over 500gbyte of movies + music in one month ? ..... DOH!!!!

I can download with my 2mbit BT connection around 97Gbyte of movies, music apps and games/Month....

so UKONLINE 500Gbyte vs the size of data you d/l a month.

www.adslguide.org.uk

Compare all the ISPs that are mentioned in this thread, but you'll find that Pipex is the best one based on thousands of its customers rating them on that website.

I'm stuck with Wanadoo at the moment (and I hate them) but when I'm finally away from them I'll be going for Pipex. Not because they're the cheapest. Not because they promise the world with all sorts of gimmicks - but purely because it's probably the most recommended ADSL ISP in this country.

I've got some colleagues at work who have recently made the move to Bulldog. In both of their cases, Bulldog lost their accounts and didn't get them set up. It took them 6 weeks to sort it out in total - and that was two seperate instances of it so I'm a bit dubious of Bulldog. Don't wanna have their telephone line either.

I'd say go for UK Online if you wanted 8mbps. Not heard anything bad about them in terms of their service... though their technical support worried me one day.

I work for a company that does technical support on computers. A customer couldn't connect to the internet so he went to UK Online and they told him he couldn't connect to the internet because he had a WINSOCK error.

Oh how I laughed when I found out he had a Mac....!

Bah! Bulldog isn't available where my house next year'll be and ukonline aren't offering the 8Mb connection there. <Sighs>

Yeah, I can only get 1meg where I am.... damn lazy electricity-men, upgrade me dangnammit, I'm entitled to 2meg! :O

Well there are going to be 5 of us using the internet, all g33ks so we will probly do abit more then that, well mayb not but limitless is defo what we are looking for, and the 8mb line will cost around £8 each per month.

Over all people seem to be saying only good things, i think we will be looking into bulldog alot more.

I'm living with Stormy, and we did consider UKonline but a friend who lives fairly close says he can not get it.
Plus UKonline & Bulldog would both be £40 a month anyway, but Bulldog is totally limitless.

Remember we gotta pay for the line as well which is £10 on BT and Bulldog, but I doubt we will use the phone much.

Thanks for the feedback tho guys

I'd go with pipex anyday, much more reliable service. Bulldog are way down the customer service ratings... If only pipex did something as fast as 8meg though, it'll be a real pain with 2 BT users (me using it almost all the time) and a Kazaa user to not steal too much bandwidth as to make everything slow down.

Blueyonder from telewest and pipex are both highly recommended from me, excellent service and no caps :)

By the way, with an 8meg line, whats the maximum that can be downloaded in a 30 day period?

I'm on bulldog. They'er alright, a few problems at the start when they thought disconnectng our whole phoneline for "maintenance" for a couple of days. but that's about it. I get decent pings on UK servers, uuhm about 40ms ping on our clan server (if you remember it).
Btw, 1mb uncapped :D. unfortunately £30 a month.
EDIT: if you do decide to go with Bulldog, contact me, so I can give you my referer :E
