Bully changes name seemingly bowing to pressure? it's now titled a more obscure Canis Canem Edit - dog eat dog in latin

Rockstar has told Eurogamer that controversial PS2 title Bully is getting a name change.

From now on, the game will be known rather less catchily as Canis Canem Edit - Latin for Dog Eat Dog.

At this stage, Rockstar isn't saying why the name's been changed. But it's not difficult to have a guess, when you consider all the criticism it's had from anti-bullying campaigners, members of parliament and, er, peaceaholics.

I think the name change is silly. Then again, I thought Wii was a stupid name, but that's grown on me.

It should be interesting to see how the protesters respond to this. I can already picture Jack Thompson saying the name change is bad because it'll confuse gamers into thinking they're buying a different game.

To be honest I kind of like the new name better, but it definitely seems less marketable. And yeah, seeing as they've already invested a significant amount in marketing for the game, a name change this late definitely means they're bowing to pressure.

Too bad, but it'll be interesting to see how this affects the protestors. It's kind of hard to talk about the horrors of "Canis Canem Edit" without sounding retarded.

I like the new name better actually, it sounds better and is less misleading. But it gives those douchebag anti-game protestors the feeling that they've actually accomplished something other than polluting the gene pool.
