I have just upgraded to a nVidia 6800GS from my Radeon 9700 Pro.

To see how it performed against my old card, I tested it in HL2 and CSS. It seems to work fine in HL2 but has problems in CSS. The most noticible is a problem with the bumpmaps. They appear strange/highly reflective compared to before and lines appear in various places. I've tried changing the mat_dxlevel but I only seem to have dx6 and dx95 as options.

I've tried the latest drivers from nvidia.com and also used the ones that came on the CD but the problem still occurs. I haven't overclocked or changed any of the default settings either.

Its nothing to worry about. This only happens becuase one of the recent Source engine updates (the 64bit one) seemed to ruin the textures like that. So far it looks like it affects everyone but is limited to Source games.. Nothing to worry about.

Oh, right. I haven't actually played CSS in a while but never noticed it before on my old card.

Thanks.

aha, i noticed this too, worried for a bit until i asked around and people had the same problem, thank god for that, i love bump mapped textures, but when they are overdone its just horrid.
