BumpTop 3D Desktop Prototype (neat desktop environment)

meh its looks cool but looks really useless..well at least for me

looks cool but completely worthless :o

The way he says lassoing sounds funny. Lassuing.

VERY useless though. That would require SO much more work than is necessary to keep organized.

It would have some cool uses in a game enviroment, though.

It was a prototype though.
Oh well. Nuts to stupid ideas then.

It's not a stupid idea... it's quite interesting and neat... but it wouldn't have much practicality for its intended use.

I'm sorry, raziaar, I fail to see how that sentance doesn't contradict itself.

The mechanics of how they have everything working is neat... and a great idea and something I haven't seen before... However, having it be used for desktop organization seems very impractical. The mechanics could be applied very well for another use, such as a video game.

What part seems contradictory to you?

If it's a good idea but at the same time impractical. That to me sounds contradictory.
Either it's both or neither.

I myself wouldn't bother trying that environment. I'm fairly sure with a bit of practice, it'd work just fine. I could have games in one pile, whilst having programs in another and diverse documents in another, etc.

As long as it's not too system demanding or whatever, I think it could become a practical tool. Guess some people aren't ready for other environments.

Although you can still have them icons lined up just like in the current Windows.

You're completely overlooking what i'm saying here.

The tools are NEAT, but not for its intended use! That's what makes it a neat idea... for a DIFFERENT use, but impractical, for its intended use.

According to your opinion it's a good idea, for exmaple for a game.
But it's still a bad idea for a desktop environment.
In other words, you're claiming it to be a bad idea.

Only for its intended use is this a bad idea... the intended use being desktop organization. Just because I think its bad for one application, doesn't mean I can't think its good for an entirely different application.

What aren't you understanding here? Anyways... take it to PM's if you need to, because this is getting off topic.

I'm understanding everything perfectly fine, however, I just like to mindf*ck you a little. :E

It's cool, but like others said, completley worthless. It would be neat to have a 3d environment, but for god sakes piles are a horrible idea to organize files, I mean especially messy piles.

Not really all that useless. The way it supports different methods of changing an object's appearance to show importance or unimportance on the desktop is practical.
