I want to know the official stance of HL2.net in relation to the issue. no worries, I made it public just in case.

I'd say the official HL2.net stance is, no, burning flags are not allowed.

It's highly offensive to a lot of people because of what it symbolises.

I feel that you should be able to have that avatar if you wish. Still I question your character if you do. Why do you feel the need to be an instigator? It seems to be a most self serving, attention seeking attitude. It should be clear to you that Americans are not all bound by one ideology, and yet that flag is the symbol for all Americans. And so you attack us all, even though the ideologys you dissagree with are not mine or many of the other Americans on this site.

Nuclear explosions are fine as a whole, but obviously it depends on what context you're intending it for... well, not even that. Unfortunately it depends on what conext people will see it in.

We have to be sensitive with certain things, for example if there were images of a burning bible or a burning cross, people would be offended. If it's your nation's flag, most people would be offended about seeing it on fire etc.

I don't take offense to it as such, and I wouldn't if it was the British flag, but I'm basically saying this for other people that would likely get offended.

Like for example, I know white people who have black friends and they'll use racist slurs and jokes on each other all the time. It's nothing malicious and it's all very light hearted, but they wouldn't dream of doing it in public or to anyone they didn't know and especially not to deliberately cause offense.

anything that isnt pornographic should be allowed. a burning flag is nothing more than fire and cloth, maybe you are offended at what it symbolizes, but thats freedom of artistic expression, and freedom of speech. learn to live with it.
