Im just wondereing, why is it that none of the american TV network websites arent mentioning Bush congradulating his Autistic Basketball buddy? The were practically on every news channel last night. Ahhhh, the useless shit they put on TV these days.

What was the headline?

"THIS JUST IN: PRESIDENT ACKNOWLEDGES ACCOMPLISHMENT AFTER ENTIRE WORLD"

I dont remember the headline, But it was about Bush seeing some autistic kid scoring hoops on the news, and him going to congradulate him on his achievement.

Are you saying Bush "congratulating" an autistic basketball player is useless shit or are you calling TV useless shit because they didn't bother to mention it?

Im calling TV useless shit, because it DID mention it. If that autistic kid was a friend of mine, I would have found the story very interesting, But his some kid on the otherside of the goddamn world. I don't give a shit about what he has done, and further, I shouldnt have to. Its not important. Neither is the stupid president going to congradulate him. They should have focused more on Bushes willingness to ignore important meetings in order to conduct such useless congradulatory processions. What is that anyway? his attempt to gain the american publics approval or something?

I thought it was very interesting and was glad to see what this kid achieved. Thankfull the rest of the world isn't like you where no one gives a shit about anyone else.

Doesn't anyone else see the issue with mediating trivial things on mass media outlets?

Last night i was swtiching through 4 news channels, every single one had this autistic kid shooting hoops as one of its prime stories. Why is this such a big goddamn thing that everybody has to know it? Sure its mediocrely interesting, but its the kind of thing that happens amoung your local town or something that you hear about, not something that every mass media news outlet reports on. This isnt the 9/11 or Iraq or Kosovo. It's just some stupid thing that happen. Im sure theres heaps of overachieving autistic people. Hell, The special olypimics for disabled people doesnt get this much coverage.

This kind of shit happens alot on TV. Useless crap like the OJ case, or some lady thats given birth to septeplets or something stupid about simese twins. Don't you people feel that its weird that the mass media should be reporting on such trivial and unimportant issuies? There so much shit in the world that they don't have an excuse to be wasting time showing us this useless crap.

Guess it's just foreign media I can't find anything about this on TV, didn't hear of it until now.

The media need viewers, viewers want to see uplifting news. I don't see it stopping anytime soon, why would a media outlet want to commit suicide?

REALLY? But one of the news channels I saw it on was CNN! How can that be? Have they just stopped showing it or something

Because the media should be there to inform the people, not to make profits. Dieing to tell the truth isnt suicide, its maytrdom.

Unfortuneatly you live in a Capitalist society, hence capital matters, your opinion doesn't.

Yeah, so what gets put on the media is capital producing media. That sound right to you? Clearly as we are participating in the internet revolution in which our discource can be mediated through a virtual public sphere, I believe that my opinion, in this context does matter. The very fact that you are replying to me implies that my opinion means something to you. How ever, in the capitilistic world, my opinion does not matter. Infact the only opions that matter are the ones who have capitial. Does this appear to be a fair system to you? a world in which only the most powerful get to say what they want?

Okay, who are you arguing with? Surely not with me, I never said I thought it was right, I said it was unchangeable. I never said your opinion didn't matter to me, I meant it didn't matter to the media. The majority opinion matters, and the majority want to see uplifting stories about autistic prodigies.

You have a media outlet telling the truth, people don't like the truth so they don't watch it, media outlet goes out of business. I think it's very simple.

This is just a basic rule of life: Sometimes, what is right is completely different from what is realistic; not always, but this is one of those cases.

ofcourse, the famous kantian distinction holds that there is that which IS and that which OUGHT to be.

As I said in my previous post 'the media should be there to inform the people'. You for some reason or another decided to turn this from a OUGHT to be statement to a IS statement, and I clarified that what you said may be true in the IS sense but not true in the OUGHT sense.

Yes its the way things are, but the way things are can change, and your statement about how this is the way things are makes it sound like it is inevetiable and thus theres no reason to resist it.
