So its time for me to buy a new computer. I want a computer that will be able to run Crysis very well, thats pretty much my requirements (because not many games will require more power).
The price is max 1000 dollars.

I have picked all the stuff i want, not the best of best but still very good for a good price. I just want to check with you if all the parts are compatible with each other, any issues, about powersupply and motherboard etc.

Here it is
http://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion/wishlist/PublicWishDetail.asp?WishListNumber=4450971

Harddrive

I will use use the one im using right now, maxtor 80 gb. I will probably get another one later.

Thats about it, but if you have any other hardware that is better (for same or better price) then please tell me! Any advice would be great. Thanks alot!

That Motherboard is cheap, will most likely not run Crysis.
RAM and CPU are not compatible with Motherboard.

Try this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813136166
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811208021
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817341001
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16814127225 OC it to 550-575MHz
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103002 OC to 2.8GHz Dual (2.8GHz each NOT both)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820146970

All 1203.95 including your case plus S&H.

But now is the best time to move onto AM2 or Intels 775 sockets since you're upgrading.

Good Luck.

I recently edited the post and changed the motherboard, will it work now?

For the 1207 FX processors, you need a 1207 FX motherboard, not AM2. Additionally, 1207 FX REQUIRES that you buy the processors in pairs. Honestly, if you're looking to go Quad-core, you're better off with Intel's 6600/6700, but you'll never be able to make a quad core system for under a grand. If all you want is dual core, the best chip on newegg is the FX-62 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103861).

For the motherboard, why are you looking at generation old chipsets? If you're trying to keep it cheap, you can still go with a 500 chipset, just the lower end, like this one from MSI: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813130063

For the ram, AM2 supports up to DDR2 800, so there's no point in holding back since its fairly close in price: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820220088

That'll put you a bit over $1000, and you only have 1GB of ram, so what I would do is get a 320MB 8800 instead of a 640MB, and add another stick of that RAM.

EDIT: Even with the cheapest 320MB (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16814130082), you're still at $1037 before shipping. That's not bad, but if you NEED to be under, you might consider keeping your current case instead of getting a new one, which would bring you under $1000.

I put everything on a wishlist: http://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion/wishlist/PublicWishDetail.asp?WishListNumber=4450971

Check out the wishlist I made. Its got everything you need.

Ravioli, what resolution will you be looking to play at ? I ask because whilst the 320mb version of the 8800gts is a great card in its own right, at resolutions above 1280 x 1024 or when applying high levels of aa or af it suffers quite a bit when compared to the 640mb variant. Just something to think about.

I checked out the wishlist and its pretty much what i want. Just wondering tho if the motherboard will go hand in hand with the case?

I dont think the 320 verison of 8800 would be much of a problem, the 640 are just way to expensive...

thanks

Dont go cheap on your motherboard, all i can add

I dont want to sidetrack this post, but just curious, whats the most effective product for cooling, liquid or should I just go with more fans?

pretty run of the mill psus if you ask me ..get a quality name brand like Enermax, FP Power, Silverstone or Seasonic ...dont pay extra for run of the mill flashy psus

also your case is low end for the price ..I'd get this

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811129150

every square inch of the case screams quality design ..there's even rubber grommits for hardrives so it keeps them nice and quiet. There's also plenty of room to work in and it keeps your components cool while not being overly noisey ...if you can afford a bit more I'd look into a Silverstone

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811163030

it comes in black, has an aluminum face (made from one piece) and is a quality build all around

TYGUY response

As a response to Tyguy's question. In my opinion Liquid is better. however fans can be just as good. Are you willing to spend all that extra cash for liquid? maybe you are. The only cons of fans is they are loud. Theres probably more to it than that but i'm just giving you what I know. sorry for the bad grammar i'm in a hurry :D I hope this was of decent help.

I was thinking of reformatting and putting XP back on, until vista comes out with good drivers.....and also getting some more fans because as of now, im running around 40-46 idle with a case fan and 2 other fans on the back, as well as a good heatsink.

heh I'm running at about 26C ..but that's with 6 case fans ...it's a little loud

well, it is colder up where you live :)

Well yeah back to topic, can anyone tell me which of those powersupplies i should choose?

I dont want to sidetrack this post, but just curious, whats the most effective product for cooling, liquid or should I just go with more fans?

My opinion, and this is mine and only opinion; I think most people who buy water cooling are just over spending and don't need it at all, and that air would keep the system just as cool.
1) Water will not keep your CPU at the freezing point.
2) If you're not extreme-OCing water is impractical in your situation and mostly over priced.
3) Accidents will can ruin the system, Spilling water.
4) If pump goes out (And they do go out faster than air in total silence) may god have mercy on you.
Over spending on water cooling will not bring you better solution than air if you're not Extreme-Ocing.
For example: The Original concept of water was when OC-ed and Temp goes to say (60) and all sorts of air become impractical then you move to water to bring temp back to like say (30) but if your temp is like say (30), then whats the point?

Fans (Intake and exhaust) preferably 2 120mm case fan and a 80mm CPU fan, all around 2000-2400RPM, Nicely organized wires, a good 600-700 brand name PSU, well designed case Mid-Full tower, and cool area of the house, would keep that system around 30 degrees idle 40-45 degrees under load, which is in the range area of the temperatures these CPU were designed to operate in.

Good Luck.

I checked out the wishlist and its pretty much what i want. Just wondering tho if the motherboard will go hand in hand with the case?
All of these cases are designed to operate all ATX and Micro-ATX motherboards; this is part of the original IBM agreements, just like how extension cards would operate in any given motherboard all ATX motherboards will fit inside all ATX cases.

I dont think the 320 verison of 8800 would be much of a problem, the 640 are just way to expensive...

thanks

I'm not so sure about that. 320MB of V-RAM just isn't enough for current games in high settings. Most current games will demand 512MB of V-RAM for maximum setting; Crysis and STALKER will need much more RAM.
Remember FarCry and Quake 4; everyone thought he/she had a monster machine just to find; OMG! my system is bleeding? Some of us couldn't even run the games on high setting, never mind ultra? And then there came along F.E.A.R, damn now we have to upgrade. lol.
Besides its only $50.00 more to get twice the memory for the 640MB version of 8800GTS. I think that would be great idea.

This guy said that he had about my specs with a 500 watt ps. It would constantly crash and the light would flicker in the case, is this due to not enough power? I read that the 8800 requiers 200-250 watt.

thanks again!

PSU always has been something you buy for the quality and reviews, www.AnandTech.com is your best friend on this. I love OCZ GameXtream PSU 600-700W versions are what powers almost all the systems I had build.
PSU have few minor but annoying and one major expensive problems.
PSU is one of the major components which keep your system stable, poorly regulated power to your components will keep your system in bad mood all the time, not to mention over heating and under performing system components (CPU, Memory, V-Card, NB, SB, Etc). Regulators are the top secret of PSU manufacturers and what keeps system very much stable.
Most reasons why system fail or get poor performance points in Prime and 3Dmark is mostly related to poor performing PSU.
But the worst thing PSU can do is to fry itself and die, that isn't a problem, unless its poor PSU. A poor PSU will take the rest of your system components, including Motherboard and CPU with it, if it wasn't equipped with over-charge protection which works all the time.
PSU kills the system in Murder-Suicide style when they kick the bucket.

Good Luck,

well technically I live further south than you do .. I'm in Toronto not Yellowknife

and on average boston is colder than toronto so .. :P

Fikin lol. You got the whole map of America? North and South?

Can you link to a 8800 with 640MB that costs about 50 more dollars? I cant find any. The 320 one costs 300 dollars, the 640 costs 400+ (a little to expensive)

thanks

I read a review comparing the 320 and 640 and i saw a really huge gap between frames performances when it comes to resolution and AA. Im going to get the 640 for sure (the one you linked to Barney), thanks alot! It seems to be gathering up pretty good. The only thing im worried about is the powersupply. 8800 takes 200-250 watts. Im getting a 620 watt, should i get more?

Im going to make a new wishlist with all the latest updates

EDIT: I cant register for some reason, well it doesnt matter, my friend who has ordered there before is ordering it for me.
So, this is what its going to be:
(can someone PLEASE check if the ps is enough! are there better at the same price/lower price?)

Nonononono. Shitty PSUs make me cry. They will also make you cry when they burn out. I haven't had much luck with Antec PSUs (two have died on me), but I know for a fact ASPIRE PSUs die pretty quickly.

Thanks

Case is fine, but I like this better and am happy with it. This is the case which my currently system is build on: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811129021 Its cost me $154.00 when it first came out but its now $120.00 so there you have it.
Motherboard is not my flavor but I have nothing against it. Just read the reviews to see if anyone is complaining about something. The price is cool.
The graphic card is cool. I'm glad you took my choice. $100.00 is nothing.
The FX-62 Is way overkill, always has been, you can buy lesser CPUs and get the same performance and save money as well. Example: This X2 5600+ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103771 is just like that FX-62 may even OC better because of the lesser Volts 1.35v Vs 1.4v meaning less heat, and they both run on Windsor chip which means they're identical like twins, but you can save $80.00 if you go for the X2 5600+.
The Memory, for performance issues its always better to buy paired modules than buying individual modules, why because they been tested together, timed together, paired together and you save more when you buy paired modules. Yours would cost you $148.00 when bought individually but when bought high performance modules from OCZ cost $190.00, which is pretty decent price for high performing modules. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16820227166

For PSU? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16817341001 hands down.

So my collection you save (More or less) $20.00 for better parts lol....:P
Good Luck.

Oooh good catch on the RAM... I was just looking for the cheapest gig of ram for him initially, and then didn't think about a pair when I recommended 2GB.

Oh wow, you guys are really good at this! Im glad i posted for help here.

I think i will stick to my case choice because its much cheaper and still works perfectly.

And wow about the processor, the FX and the one you proposed are basicly the same when i look at the specifications only that its 100 dollars cheaper. Why is the FX more expensive? Is there some hidden feature? Il go with the one you said because it saves money for the same quality anyway.

For memory, i will go for a paired now when you mention it. However i found one that is 10 dollars cheaper than the one you talked about but has the same specs (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820144062) so i will choose that one.

The powersupply you linked to costs more than mine and has lower watts, so i think i should stick to mine unless yours has something that outruns mine?

There's your reason. ASPIRE PSUs die quickly.

Yeah, with power supplies, its not just about the number of watts, its the quality too.

I think i will stick to my case choice because its much cheaper and still works perfectly.

Fair enough, your case is cool but I like mine better :P

And wow about the processor, the FX and the one you proposed are basicly the same when i look at the specifications only that its 100 dollars cheaper. Why is the FX more expensive? Is there some hidden feature?

No, there is no hidden feature, the FX has always been the AMD rip off, and people always bought FX for the name, so the $80.00 extra your paying for is just for the name. Since FX line is the "If you want to call it" AMD luxury line they just cost more and not necessarily better than other chips, besides they don't even OC better, matter of fact I think I would say the 5600+ will OC better than FX volts-wise the 5600+ is 1.35v when the FX is 1.4v.

For memory, i will go for a paired now when you mention it. However i found one that is 10 dollars cheaper than the one you talked about but has the same specs (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820144062) so i will choose that one.
Don't buy GEIL man most Motherboards hate GEIL modules and I have seen people crying about it and trying to RMA darn thing. Memory shopping is always limited to Patriot, Mushkin, Kingston, Corsair, OCZ, Crucial and maybe Buffalo. Too bad the ones I choose for you are already sold out? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16820227166

The powersupply you linked to costs more than mine and has lower watts, so i think i should stick to mine unless yours has something that outruns mine?
Your PSU cost less because it's crapy, these people will sell you a 1000W piece of crap if you ask me. PSU is the only component that can and will kill other components, when they go bad. Please read my previous post. Buy a brand name expensive nicely reviewed PSU, and not because its cheap. PSU is the only part in your system you don't bargain for..lol

Thank you all for your time and help!

You're very welcome, Hope we have been help to ya. Enjoy.

Good Luck.

Allright, il take your advise on the RAM and i found a good Kingston brand. Its 2gb (2x1gb) DDR2 240-ping 800 (fits perfectly with my motherboard). Its got great reviews too!

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820134066

I will continue to search for a good power supply! But i just wonder how much is TO much? Because i dont want to buy a powersupply that is more than i need.

EDIT:

Does this PS look good? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817190012
Its the same brand as my case so it should fit perfectly. The 8800 requires their own power cable i have heard, is this included?

Look. It's either buy a quality PSU now; or buy a shitty one now and buy a nice one three months later when the shitty one dies. I can't really recommend Antec (other people will) because two have died on me so far. I can recommend PC Power and Cooling and FSP Group. They make absolute quality power supplies.

XION died on me once, after six months. Bad reviews also. I couldn't get my system run prime stable even at stock settings because of that PSU.
I never used Antec, but I heard good hardware reviews of PC P&C and FSP. My OCZ have been good to me, so there you have it.
Your options are; Antec, FSP, PC P&C and OCZ.
To The Capt. said:
Sorry Capt. I forgot to mention Enermax is one of best PSU. I bow for you Sir.

Also good choice on memory, they're cool.

[Edit] One thing I forgot to mention: Now that you upgraded for the future why not get a SLI Motherboard? Because eventually that's where things are headed and its always good to setup right.
The motherboard you choose has the 24-pin power connectors on the wrong side of the board (They should connect on the right-side of the board for looks and convenience), you must drag power cables on top of the CPU socket when installing board; which will look ugly and also too many cables in the way, motherboard will literally sit behind the giant 24-pin ATX connectors. Also too many negative reviews.

Get one of these, borrow money if you have to. :O

Good Luck.

Personally I like Alienware, I have a Alienware Area-51..... Just a though. If you do get one it will be a little more than your quoted price, but worth it.

Alienware is NOT worth it. The markup on their systems is ridiculous.

I don't let anyone handle my gun, wife, car and my system.

And like Stigmata said; Alienware rip people off.

Area 51 = $2000.00 - $3000.00.

Looking, admiring, bragging and playing on your own creation = Priceless.

Good Luck.

You choose wisely sir.
Good luck on your next setup.
Make sure you install HSF and CPU outside the case, Standoff and Mobo screws and all accounted for, use anti-static wristband or latex rubber gloves, ground yourself, The 2GB memory may go into slot 1 and 3 instead of 1 & 2, (read the manual to confirm this) Everything else will be based on plug & Play settings so setup will almost be like a vacation (Another reason to build your own setup).

Now bring me back some noobs.

Good Luck.

Antec gets good reviews, and a lot of people like the brand. Like I said, I've had a bad experience with them, but I'm sure Antec won't give you the problems I had. MSI is a nice motherboard company. The antistatic "scare" is, in most cases, fake. I've just touched my case before I touch a computer component and all of my stuff is fine.
