Buying a new video card/ need advice

HL2.net shortens the links with a "..." replacing the middle bulk of it if they're too long.

I'd say wait until next month before looking at getting a new card. Nvidia is releasing their newest card on the 26th this month, so that should drop the prices of other cards on the market. Since it seems like you're looking at ~$150 cards, I'd say keep an eye on the Geforce 260/270 series. I probably wouldn't go into the low end DX11 series cards just yet, since they're a little overpriced for what you actually get. Barely any games use it yet, and the graphical improvements are practically unnoticeable. A 260/275 should be able to hold you over for another 2+ years playing most games at max settings. After that you'll probably just want to get a new pc to bring everything up to date.

I don't think the 5750 is a good value. You'll get better performance from a 4850 and it's less expensive. The 5750 supports DX11, however - but if you're not using Windows 7, it won't matter. What's your OS?

I'm running Windows 7. I just put together a newish rig, everything except the hard drive and vid card are new. I'm running a Phenom II, and 4 gigs of ram. It's pretty bombin except for the video card.

I guess I'll hold off and see where the prices go later this month!

Thanks guys

The 8800GT is the way to go. If you can get the BFG 8800GT 512mb OC card, even better. Its the same price, has more onboard RAM and comes overclocked, so you're getting a bit more juice for your money.

They're dirt cheap these days.

Just make sure your Power Supply has enough, well, power. You'll want 500w and above.

Otherwise you'll start experiencing crashes, system hangs, blue screens etc.
