I'm looking to purchase my first laptop, my goal is to find a decent gaming laptop for under 1,000 USD. While pursuing Newegg I stumbled upon this, it has great specs but it also has some real horror stories in the reviews.

Do the pros out weight the cons? Should I just try and find something else that isn't recertified?

I wouldn't buy recertified if you can get brand new ones for the same price. For example, this notebook is $25 more ($800) and has a better processor, ram, identical graphics, Windows 7, and its 2 lbs lighter.

Specs of the linked one:
Core i5 520m
4GB DDR3
320 GB HD
ATI Mobility Radeon 5650 1GB
Windows 7 Home Premium
6.16lbs
1 year warranty

Recertified:
Core 2 Duo P8700
6GB DDR2
500GB HD
Nvidia GTX 260M
Windows Vista Home Premium
8.80lbs
90 day warranty

Alright so I looked around some more just to see if I could maybe find a better deal on that laptop Escaep linked and I did: Click Here

They are both basically the same laptop except the one from CDW has a 17.5 in screen, a marginally slower CPU, a larger HDD, and I can get it for nearly 60USD less than NE because I have an account with CDW.

That's what I ended up getting, so again thank you Escaep for pointing me in the right direction.
