Hey guys, im going to be buying a used xbox 360 elite today and im not to familiar with xbox's at all. I was wondering if you guys could help me with a list of some important questions I should be asking so I dont get scammed. He said that its a xbox 360 elite "mtv live" version so the face plate is different or something along those lines. Im going to ask him to play it for a little bit before I buy it so i know its working but other then that im not sure what to ask..any help would be greatly appretiated because Im going tonight to buy it and I know you guys are pretty educated with the next gen systems. Thanks!

I've never heard of an Elite "mtv live" version, so....

I'd honestly wait a little bit and buy the new pro version(60gb) that come out next month, they've got the new jasper mobo+warranty.

I suggest you do as DiSTuRbEd said, but then again that's because I never buy consoles used because I don't like spending that kinda money on something that's "used".

So the pro version... did they announce how much it will be? Im getting a pretty good deal because not only is it the "elite" system in question but 6 games (GTAIV, Gears of war, *insert 4 other games that are sick*) 2 controllers and the works, and I know the games are legit. Im 100% going to go tonight even to just ask the questions you guys help me come up with because if it is an elite i dont want to pass up this opportunity, even tho its used which I have no problems with. So again I ask my fellow halflife2.neters, what are some critical things I should be asking tonight when I head over there?

*EDIT* also im pretty sure what he ment by mtv live version was the mtv live faceplate, the actual xbox elite will still be black, right? also when you send in a xbox 360 elite thats defective do they send you a brand new one or a refurbished?

They will probably send you a refurbished one (That's fine though. It works just as good), but they sometimes send out new ones and if it's black it's an Xbox 360 Elite (Or it's spraypainted, unlikely though). If it comes with a game it's a good deal. It's not like they're upgrading the actual hardware (Well they kinda are, but in the end it's all the same stuff), they're just improving the design on the current hardware mainly to do with fan noise, heat, bigger HDs (Doesn't the elite come with a 120 GB hard drive anyways? That's definately a buy if it has the 120 GB hard drive compared to the Pro version.. which doesn't even have HDMI if I'm correct?), DVD drive noise.

EDIT: If you're really unsure if it's an Elite just look for the HDMI port in the back, that'll tell you for sure.

Thanks fliko ill definately look for that if its something it has to have to be an elite. I was pretty sure I heard that elites have a better mobo or something that helps is stay cooler and not get RROD. Something about Falcon 65nm or something? And ill definately ask about the hard drive, how can I tell if it really is a 120GB and hes not just saying so?

WRONG!!! I got a Pro with HDMI and an extra fan (Zephyr mobo) when that model came out a while back. Just because it has an HDMI port DOES NOT mean it is an Elite. I would personally not buy a used 360 either. Buying a new one is risky enough. Good luck with it if you decide to go through with it though. :)

Wrong they send you a Xenon 360 if you get one back from MS, that is if they can't fix your original one.

Man, that's a nice way to get screwed over eternally, and either way if you have the Zephyr mobo you're good to go, the older boxes just do fine though, I believe I'm running one of the first waves of 360 consoles.

You can check for the HD space somewhere in the settings... he'll probably know how to show you. Try running it for 30 minutes or so too just to make sure it won't RRoD on you as soon as you bring it home. There's not much to really ask though, as long as you get everything, and it doesn't RRoD you're good to go.
