Is there a way to buy EP1 on its own? Through steam it seems you can only buy it with HL2: DM, HL2: LC and HLDM: Source....On this page it says that HL2:DM is usually $9.95...well, I already have it, similarly, I have all the other games bundled with EP1 and don't feel too happy about paying for them again.

So is there a way you can buy EP1 singley, totally on its own?

Also, does anyone know if Valve plan on releasing an EP pack, with like all the EP games in 1 package?

You look at it the wrong way. You pay $20 for Ep1 and you get the other games free with it.

And they probably will... when all 4 episodes are released.

Well why are the bundling 'free' games that I don't want with it. Way I see it, HL2: DM is $9.95, the pack is $19.95, therefore, as I only want EP1, the game should be, at most, $10.

Maybe you should write Valve a strongly-worded letter?

HL2DM comes free with EP1. I got my EP1 for $14 at walmart.

The game is worth $20. You are getting $30 worth of products for $20. If you really try hard you may convince Valve to put EP1 on Steam by itself for $20.

I could...but rather than waste my time writing a letter that'll just get ignored, I decided to post here instead :p

I'd earlier suggest a job.
I have one. It's not that I can't afford $20...it's that I don't feel particularly happy about paying for something I already have.

You can say 'its free though' all you like. But in the world I, and most other people live in, there is no such thing as *free*. Valve wouldn't chuck a game in for no reason. They are probably using it so that people have another reason to spend $20 on a game, to convince a few fence-sitters.

Another idea I'll chuck at you guys, rather than e-mail to valve, maybe they should have a EP pre-release pack. Pay x amount now, get all EP games as soon as they're released. Rather than having to pay for each one individually (or with 'freebies' as in this case) or having to wait until all the EPs are released to buy them all for slightly less.

Ep1 does cost $20. It's a singleplayer game and Valve put the other games in for multiplayer.Lost Coast because it's a free techdemo with HL2.

Ep2 is gonna be a pack, with 1 mp game and an extra standalone game. It is gonna cost between $20 and $50.

hl2dm is free and has always been free when you buy hl2. i dont really see the complaining over 20 bux.

When HL2 was released, it only contained CS Source as multiplayer. HL2 Deathmatch was released via steam afterwards as a surprise for the community to download. It is free. Episode 1 is available for purchase on it's own.

It is highly likely valve will release a 'all in one' episode package, however there are 4 planned episodes, and the 2nd is out in February 2007. Therefore the wait is considerable, so it's down to you.

Just landed on this forum site and am new to the HL2 experience (better late to the party than not at all!) and I have a question for all you seasoned veterans in here. What's the best way to get HL2 Episode 1: purchase the disc or download it directly from Steam? The retail version of HL2 I bought last month got me the title game as well as Lost Coast and Deathmatch... if I downloaded Episode 1 from Steam would I be getting those "extras" again as well? I've read that even when you buy the disc you still have to download the content from Steam, so is it easier all around to just log into my Steam account and dl it right from them?

Thanks for the help... eager to continue the experience! :)

doesn't matter where you buy it. its all the same content, but some packages will have different games included in each between retail and steam.
