Buying games off of steam?

k i am planning to buy counter strike source and half life 2 off of steam. Is there any extra steps you have to do if you buy the game off steam, instead of buying the game on a cd from the store?

Extra steps? Well I say, you have to go through that LONG download process.

Heres my tip: Don't buy big games over Steam.

how LONG is the long download process. and is that the only drawback from buying it off steam?

Depending on your internet speed (I guess) its pretty long for big games.

I regret buying Cod2 over Steam.

Depends on your connection and the size of the game, but probably less time than waiting for delivery if you order a boxed copy online.

But even still, the installation from the cd can be pretty long. Or, in my case, an hour for the second time.

I got a new computer, and started playing Cod2. Its a pretty decent game.

Well the computer I had bought was off my brother, which I had already played on there. Cod2 was already installed, so I just opened it up, and played.

I have a med speed connection and hl2 took me about 80 minutes to download. It think it has something to do with your processing speed.

Yep, accept I'm missing a sound file, but I'm sure it has nothing to do with where I got it. I had it on this account for 3 years and it laid dormant. I'm sure that had something to do with my problem. I'm sure your game will be fine, because I downloaded the following off steam

Half-life 1
Half-life OP4
Half-Life Blue Shift
Half-Life HD pack for steam
Tomb Raider Legends
Half-Life 2 Episode 1
Counter Strike Source
Half-Life Deathmatch Source
TFC
Half-Life 2 Lost Coast
Half-Life 2 Deathmatch
And most obviously Half-Life 2

So yeah, if I lose my internet connection I'm boned. XD
