Im gonna buy my 1st car so I need some advice please. I got a budget of around £1000 and want a 1.4 hatchback so I can get cheap insurance. Im only gonna be using it to go work and the occasional outing. Any suggestions?

Im thinking of a GOLF 1.4 CL 1996 – 1998. Insurance was £900 full comp and Im only 23 :)

Get a Civic or something. Golf's probably aren't too reliable.

VW's are a real hit and miss for the most part, some of them are perfect and have no problems, while others you'd think were put together by a team of 4th graders. Overall though if you want reliable--i'd stay away, and this is coming from somebody who owns three of them.

Get a gas scooter cheap to buy and cheap insurance LOL!

I'm on my second Passat (not my choice). First car was a Jetta with 80k on it and it had a couple problems after 8 months, but it seemed to be running fine. Got hit and upgraded to a 98 Passat, which was a huge mess. ABS module was shot, oil leak, power steering fluid began leaking (might of been my fault on that one) and a bunch of other random stuff. The car was going to breakdown, but luckily I got hit again and got $5k for it and now I'm stuck with a 99 Passat, which seems to be doing okay, but it's only been a month.

Connecticut sucks biggus dickus when it comes to anything that involves buying used cars that aren't overpriced as ****. Also, these auto******s in CT need to learn how to drive stick cause finding a car with a manual tranny is a pain.

except mine was blue, and had 4 doors. same year though ('88 vw fox)

By the way, I was living in CT at the time, and got it for $1600, which was a couple hundred under kelly blue book value at the time... and it was a stickshift.

Wow, nice! Finding a VW on stick isn't bad, but the car I wanted to get was a Volvo c70, which is rare enough and finding one on stick was even harder.

Ex-BT Metro Van. I bought mine for £1, and the insurance (as its a farm vehicle, living on a farm is handy if you want to insure vans and/or 4x4s [proper 4x4s like Daihatsu fourtacks, Izuzu Troopers and Land Rovers. None of this "Soft roader ****]) was all of £300. And I'm 17.
