Basically, I've lost my WinXP disc which is a pain because I want to try out my new custom-built PC :(

I want to know the difference between the OEM version (cheaper) and Retail version.

OEM is only meant to be sold with a new system (gen a motherboard). Some places will sell you OEM copies without but they are the same.

Well nothing except for few.

1) Clean-install, no upgrades from previous Version of Windows.

2) some of the Hardware drivers could be missing and need to be
downloaded as Win-Update. (Good Luck, but it's never often)

3) Seven days to activate and register with Microsoft. And you have four authorized activations before you end up calling Microsoft.

4) You will only get an OS and its drivers and nothing more.

5) There is no Microsoft support for OEMs, but there is a pay-per-call 1-900 number you must call for support. No chat/email support either.

And few other stuff I don't remember now but they're nothing to worry about. My OS is OEM and I'm extremely happy with it and I do recommend it.

BTW FarCry is one word, cuz it looks much better like that, and I hate Halo and Halo 2 Fans and its designers..........Criticize that. :p :p :p :p :p

Good choice.

But I'm sorry that I can't help you with the site, because I don't live in the UK. But your fellow UK mates will sure clarify it for you. Just hang on.

Almost forgot: Read the warning in the red ink; "If you see ads for Windows XP downloads, you can be 100% certain that those are pirated - Microsoft have never released a downloadable version of Windows XP" They're right on that; There never was a downloadable legal version of windows, so the statement from the site both makes me agree and suspicious at the same time. The convincing from the site is what worries me.
So it's always better to buy from a site that you dealt with or famous sites like Newegg, Etc, even if the price is little higher like $10.00. Mostly OEM Windows go about $140-$150, here in the U.S. Unless you find them in a mind-blowing sale. So shop around in that range.

Good Luck.

Be careful when buying OEM versions of software, a lot/most of the time it will be a scam thing, seriously.

You'll be fine with an OEM version, when I bought my new PC a few days ago the offered to sell me an OEM version (Though I already owned XP) and I asked if that was fine and so on and they said yup, it is (Detailed, I know).

I can think of one problem you might have, that's with activating XP.

Basically, if you buy it second hand or a OEM from some third party (Like your first link) the chances that the CD-KEY that comes with has already been activated a few times are very high.

Solution ? When activating first try the internet one, if it works, awesome, if it doesn't, go for the telephone activation. You'll have to call them up, provide a long number and they'll provide a long number back - I've done it a couple of times and it was easy as hell.

The number will be on the page with the activation code, you'll find it easily enough.

So yeah, as long as you get a * REAL * CD-KEY (Whether it's been activated, it doesn't matter, just as long as it's real) you'll be A-Okay using above telephone method.

I just noticed that ebay one is sealed, you'll be fine, lol. :)

Alrighty. Thanks :P

The Listing on Ebay has been removed...Hmm!

Isn't there a legitimate UK based E-retailer out there? Where are the UK guys?

You need to buy a mobo with it, and you don't get all the papers.

Do eet. Retail XP is such a waste of monay.

^ Yeah, I was like, "Hm...OK then"...

I found a bunch of these.

Seem to have good feedback...

OK. Pay through PayPal, since PayPal is partially (If not fully) owned by Ebay. You can complain to Ebay, for a refund if that XP copy becomes illegitimate and or Activation times has been exhausted, and MS won't or refuses to activate it any longer. PayPal does offer up to $1000.00 insurance when you use PayPal for paying for an item at Ebay.
So use PayPal to pay for the OS.

Good Luck.

My dad always uses PayPal anyway :P
