Buying off steam

Ive preloaded HL2 (so far), and i was wondering, If I bought a copy of hl2, how do I get to play HL2 on release day? Do they send me a cd-key over email to activate it, or what... I searched for this, and i didnt find an answer, i know its somewhere around here. Sorry to trouble you guys with stupid questions, let the flaming be minimal, and if you guys do have a thread/link that I missed, that would be helpful.

it is probibly just activated on the spot, no CD key required... (it exists, but you never see it, the fact that you bought Hl2 is stored on your account)

You get the game at 12 Midnigh East coast. No CD key, just the game on Steam like that.

Thanks guys for the info, and now I know how I will be getttin hl2 if i buy off steam... Really the only reason I see to buy it off steam right now, is because ill be able to play full cs:s next week...oh, and can I HL2 off of steam right now, or are they still trying to find the right prices? P.S. I do have a good password :dork:
