Buying Speakers

I very much so trust the people here with their knowledge on computer stuff, and for the incoming release of HL2, i want to purchase some decent speakers with a subwoofer thingy. I currently have 2.0 speakers with no sub that are 1.5 W (utterly shite)

I'm looking to spend up to £50 british pounds, and i want a sub and 2 speakers or 5, can anyone tell me whats the best thing to buy around for that price, i've seen a few things, but personal recommendations are much better. Any suggestions are welcome!
