I'm selling my PC because I don't PC game anymore. I only use it to search the web, pictures, music, videos, etc. If I get a laptop (I'm looking at the 17" macbook pro), can I use it as like a desktop? I like to keep my PC on almost all the time, but can I do the same with a laptop or is that not a good idea? (battery burn out or whatever)

Laptops can get hot, but you can normally leave them on.

TRAITOR!!! MAY YOU BURN IN PC HELL!!!!!

I dont think that would be a prob if you run it from DC and not from the battery... *waits for Asus to bombard us with heavy technical jargon*

I used to leave my laptop on all the time, but the screens do wear out. Set it to hibernate whenever it's off for long periods, and set the screen to blank for periods inbetween use and non-use.

get one of those coolers they sell, it rests underneath it

just buy vista and use bootcamp ..you'll have a pc and a mac ..a mid range mac laptop can play oblivion, hl2 so no worries if you want to play pc games at some point

personally I'd splurge a little and get a mac pro ..desktop ..the one with the dual quad core Xeons, 2 x 1900xt video cards, 16g of ram and 3Tb of hd space ..it's only $10,541.00 ...$4499 of that is for ram alone :O

I couldn't justify buying a PC for 10.5k, let alone a Mac... \=

it's a workstation ..add 4 ati 7300 video cards and you can run up to 8 30" lcds at a time

it's for tradeshows/multimedia coporate presentations etc

I personally can't stand macs, I think they were always way too overpriced for what they did. However, I got a chance to check out a mac mini the other day and the thing really did impress me. The fact it is based off linux and can actually run linux programs and commands in a package that is smaller than your average protable hard drive will probably get me to buy one pretty soon.

mac osx has been based off linux for years now

Yeha, I just found that out not too long ago. The price on these things always really turned me off until a coowner showed me his mac mini which he said he got for only around $500.

ya it's a media box ...it might be phased out due to apple tv

http://www.apple.com/appletv/

At first I was turned off by apple tv as most my videos on my computer are in divx format and from what apple said you would not be able to play these without converting them first.

Now that they have hacks that will allow you to run other codecs on the apple tv I might have to take a closer look at them. 40GB isn't a whole lot of storage but since it does run on the network you can always store a lot of the content elsewhere.

there's rumours of gaming coming to apple tv, officially ..but some peeps are working on emulators so you can play classic games

Mmm, this is what I am considering doing quite seriously. As long as I can get all the drivers for a DX10 gpu working in Bootcamp I will have it made in the shade...but we will see though.
