C&C Renegade X

Who remembers the Unreal Tournament 3 mod Renegade X? Well it's being released as a free standalone game! The current build still requires UT3 but this Saturday they'll be releasing a singleplayer mini-campaign/demo to show off the standalone version. Not sure when the MP component is out. Here's some screenshots:

I never got the opportunity to play mp with the mod because of server issues. It looks really good and a standalone release would allow for lots of players.

I never got a chance to try the multiplayer in the mod either because it was broken beyond belief, I sincerely hope they've fixed it with the standalone release.

Wow memories, I used to play Renegade online for hours of my early days on the internet (when I first got broadband). It was such fun, I've always yearned for an up-to-date version. Nothing is as good as it used to be though. :angry:

I tried the initial release, and I was disappointed that a lot of the tactics I used to employ didn't work. However, they fixed things in subsequent versions, and it seems pretty faithful to the original (minus the rubberband physics!)
I'd be up for some hl2.net games.

I've never played the original Renegade myself, but this looks like a lot of fun.

It's legit. It was posted on the website, so I imagine the creators put it up. I just downloaded it and am installing it now. Anyone want to play a bit tonight?

Edit: Also, I hope posting a torrent link isn't against the rules. It's not pirated or anything, just another sharing medium the developers chose to use.

Edit 2: Didn't know it was only singleplayer out right now.

Poor animations (my initial thought was "why is everyone limping?")
Atrocious voice acting. Seriously, I wanted to die listening to it.
Nonexistent AI - enemies run towards you, then stand still and shoot until you kill them. They don't attempt to evade, take cover, or do much at all really. Enemy vehicles will drive right up to your vehicle and try to shoot from point blank range.
Badly-scripted missions - blow up these two turrets with C4. But not this one, that one's being saved for the end of the mission, even though it's the first one you encounter. What?
Forcing the player to stand, immovable while an in-engine cutscene plays.
Very little "feel" to the weapons.
There's probably more, but I had to stop playing.

I didn't want to be harsh on something that is essentially free but yeah, pretty much all of the above. I played until the escort mission in the tank. My tank was destroyed after an unbalanced horde of other tanks attacked me and destroyed it, leaving me running around on foot with no way to destroy my attackers. Seriously bad.

They seem to be staying true to the original, at least. Poor singleplayer, good multiplayer. I hope!
