C Drive self-destructing

I'm losing space on my (edit:MAIN) C: drive, and I can't figure out why. It's gotten down to 1mB of space, and now I'm backing up what little i can carry out of there. Luckily I've got my 100gB portable hard drive to carry out all my... uh... stuff, but I don't know why the C: drive is constantly losing space on it. I think it's a virus, but my antivirus subscription ran out a couple of days ago. I'm probably just going to refresh the entire computer, but I'd like to know what killed my PC.

There are things that write shitloads of text into random txt files, slowing eating hard drive space...

Just an update - I found this random folder called "Complete" in my My Documents folder, that was full of zipped files named everything from "Empire Earth 2" to "Macromedia Flash", but the files were a) too small to contain anything like that and b) all the same size. I have NO idea how it got there.

Sounds like a virus or some hard drive failure, good luck and tell us what you find.

you can try to d/l a shareware tool such as treesize to find out what folder/file is consuming a lot of space.

I don't know whether I'm going to find anything, as I'm reformatting the PC. I was going to do it anyway, but this was the last straw really.

stuff you download is kind of saved as a temporary folder and cookies will take up some space also

One time I ran out of hard drive space for no real reason, so I went hunting in the %temp% folder after other unsuccessful tries to find the problem and fuond a 15GB photoshop temp file that just sat there staring at me. You might (unless you've already formatted) want to check your %temp% folder by going to start > run and typing %temp%

Bah, that's weird. Yesterday, 1mB free despite all my uninstalling and whatnot. Today, turn on, 5gB free. Weird. Oh, I'll reformat later.

Searched "Folder called complete" on Google. It turns out to be a worm associated with Limewire, to what cause I know not.
