I recently moved to a new place, and only two cables (kind that goes to TV/modem, etc) are functional, and the rest are disabled.

Normally, I would find the cable box and hook it up elsewhere, or split it to additional places so that I can move the modem, use TV in different areas, etc, but I am unable for the love of god, to find this cable box.

Is it possible for the ISP to disable the use of multiple cables than your plan intends? Or does the normal rerouting/splitting method work regardless?

Do some homes not openly display the cable boxes intentionally? What can I do?

Do you mean some of the outlets aren't hooked up? If so there should be a box somewhere in your house (usually in a closet) that has the junction for all the rooms. The cable company likes to disconnect these (sometimes put locks on them) so they can charge you an arm and a leg for installation. You should be able to get to these yourself without an issue if you find the box.

Yes, I believe thats the situation, except the box is NOWHERE in sight. I have seriously checked all the corners of this place with no success.

I think the situation is that they are not hooked up, and that if I did relocate/split it with the box, the problem would be solved, but if by chance, the ISP is able to direct where and how many outlets directly work, I am ****ed.

Sometimes it's behind a piece of drywall!

Also, the cable companies "scam" you because they don't want you hooking up an ungodly amount of TVs and ruining the connection for everyone. Cable lines can only provide so much. You can get around this by using a special splitter and hooking one end up to your cable modem and the other to an amplifier which then gets hooked up to more splitters to your TVs. Best to let your cable company do this, so they don't end up come knocking with a FTC notice about your signal leak.

is it an apartment or house? for one thing it's probably because there is no cable box. i'm referring to the box they give you to decode the channels. if your talking about the box that's normally mounted to the outside of the place that you're in then you should look around the building for any gray/green boxes sticking out of the ground. it's probably locked and you can't get it in. however the reason there are certain coaxial outlets "disabled" in your place is prly simply because the lines got cut to them or something.

Its an apartment home, and I have looked outside the house walls as well, but I was not able to locate any.

did you look in surrounding yards? and where do you live exactly?

Yes, any reasonable place that it could possibly exist outside of entering other people's yard and homes.

What do you mean where do I live exactly? Its an apartment home.

lol
ok, in a semi large city i assume? if so it may be on a nearby telephone pole. i mean towards the top where you can't get to it.

I dont think there are any immediately nearby telephone poles in this area

Have you tried digging a hole outside for a burried cable? A lot of times cable companies will do that.

On a serious note sounds like you're screwed, they probably handle the room to room distribution at their own junction. Your only option will be to buy a splitter and run cables through your apartment.
