Call of Duty 4 CD Key issues....

Well, I went to a LAN this weekend, and we all played some COD4. Well, obviously it was pirated and we had fake CD Keys. I decided the game was fun, so went and bought it. I changed my CD Key in the "Multiplayer Options" inside the game, and I'm getting "CD Key In Use". I'm going to try to reinstall *oh god, here comes another hour of install!* but just curious if it's a known problem.

*EDIT* ok, thread over. The key I put in was for some special feature, that just so happened to be the exact same format as a regular CD Key. The key is on the inside of the jewel case. I haven't seen that in a while! Usually it's on the booklet or something.

Oh well, *sigh* Uninstalled for nothing.

You might need to change it in the registry as well I reckon. This is just a stab in the dark, but might be worth a try. CoD1 and 2 had similar things gwanin'.

Go to Start > Run > Enter 'regedit' and click OK.

Then there should be an entry called 'codkey' under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>Software>Activision>Call of Duty 4

Change that entry (Right-click then Modify) to the proper key and see if that works.

lol, I did that, too. That was the first place I did it, then come to find out, I could do it in game But yeah, like my edit reads, I fixed it. I'm a dummy.

I can't find any "official" forums. COD4.com has a bunch of links to community forums, but no official. I was looking on codhq.com, and that has a lot of posts. Now, one thing that made me lawl was this.

try this...please follow these steps.
1) Start game and click on "Join Server"
2) Click the ~ key on the keyboard and type in /connect 69.65.25.100:28961 and hit "Enter".

Be careful. There is a hack already in use whereby you enter an IP via the console and your keycode is stolen.

How is this possible?

I've been getting this today as well. I "fixed" this by allowing the game to attempt to connect longer, before it announces a timeout.

Pull down your console and type

seta cl_connectionAttempts 30

not sure if it's "attempt" or "attempts" but it will suggest possible commands as you type the first part of it anyway.

Unfocused, apparently it's an everybody issue. The further you are from the auth server, the longer it takes to connect. I have my connection attempts set to 30 right now in my config. Usually takes 1-2 times of reconnecting to get in.

The timeout thing really doesn't bother me. It rarely takes more than 30 seconds to connect to a server. But then if the auth server is near IW HQ, I'm closer than many. (IW is based out of Encino, CA iirc)

Hardcore mode has got to be my favorite. Not only does it just feel better, but the people that play it tend more towards teamwork, communication, etc.

Plus, on hardcore, every weapon is balanced rather than the bias the normal game has towards/against a few guns.

Preferred kit at the moment is a Barrett 50 cal, P90 secondary, Claymores or 3x flash/stun, and deep impact... Golden deagle is sick, but the p90 is just unbeatable.

*edit* wow, this community is about as retarded as the CS community. When someone dies, it's either "LAGGY ******" or "HACKS!". then if you use a gun they don't like, it's a newb gun. *sigh* Elitists ftl.

Are you thinking of DoD? I never really played any CoD until this one, because I was always getting bored stiff...I don't know why this one is so appealing.

I have a legit copy. Managed to play online for an hour, then I quit the game. Then when I tried to join any server, I kept on getting the same message.

open up console, type cl_connectionattempts 30 then give it a shot. The auth servers are overloaded...just gotta give it longer to work. If it doesn't work on the first try, in console type reconnect, and you should get in that time.
