Right, I just bought it today and I can't get past the F*CKING INSTALL-F*CKING-ATION. Grrrr... It goes through the whole "What's your cd-key and whilst we're at it, where d'you want this to go?" bit but then just before it starts I get this bastard message:
"The file C:\Program Files\Call of Duty\Main\codkey could not be opened. The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process."
It might say program at the end, but that's besides the point. What in the name of Pat Sharpe the Mullet King is going on!? Surely that file's not created yet? What? I'm so confused and really quite pissed off.
I'm gonna try and install it on my parents' PC and that'll answer whether it's faulty or not (I kinda hope it isn't because going back into town to swap it for the same bastard thing is hella lame), but if it isn't then WHY WON'T IT WORK ON MINE!? AAAARRRGH!
Please help me.

Update: The disc is not faulty it's a problem with my PC. Please any help would be so much appreciated. Cheers.

Are you connected to the internet during insallation. if so then you cd game is fuked.

go kassa and type in the searching bar CALL OF DUTY download the file says call of duty key generator size is 805Kb that will help

I'm not connected to the i'net on mine, and why would I need a cd key generator when I already have my own cd key?

ya g0rg... u sum kind of pirate?

Normally when i get a write access error I just restart windows and that fixes it, you could try closeing all the background processes.

well elchi. Mrchimp is right. do as he says. if noting fixed then try kassa at least man. cd key generator can produce 5x10^566778 cd keys. just try it.:)

I've restarted at least once. I haven't tried closing the background apps, this is true - I hope that works. Cheers Mr.Chimp!
And Gorg, I am still unsure why you think it'll help. Although I am willing to try it...

It wont be any differant then with your cd key, he is just wanting you to use a pirate CD key.

Gorgon doesn't know what he's talking about, don't listen to him.

The first thing that came to mind when I read your problem was that "already in use" meant that you were running the install program multiple times, but you probably aren't, so just check your background programs. If it works on your parents' PC, then something is wrong with your PC, if it doesn't work anywhere, then return the game and get a different copy.

Please excuse my ignorance, but would that be like Ctrl+Alt+Del listed programs or just programs in general? I'm assuming the former... And what kind of program would cause this problem?
And thank you very much for the help so far...

Personally I think this whole write access thing is just a bug in windows, it never happens in Linux. I don't think it's possible that you are running the install program twice and it's even less likely that another program is trying to write to that file. Somehow the installation program has ****ed up creating that file and windows is being fooled into thinking that the file is still being writen too when it comes to writeing the CD key.

First try deleteing the cd key file then if you can't delete it just try installing the game to a different directory, if that doesn't work either update windows or try a different hard disk.

Just to say I've finally managed to install it. Cheers for all your help! Much appreciated.
