Call to arms to all the EU citizens against software patents

The legislation on patenting software will come into second reading by the European Parliament in the following weeks. The legislation enables patenting software solutions like double-click (which is already valid in the US). Here is another example of what else is patented in the US and the same can happen in the EU.

I urge you to sign this PETITION which will be taken into account when the decision will be made. Use any other legal means that this would not happen. Call your representatives, write on blogs, tell your friends about it. Or, open-source and small software developers might become the endangered species if not extinct.

Let at least us step together if the politicians can't.

A software patent means you can patent stuff like double-clicks, scrollbars, or even application windows. It's crazy. Imagine if, say, someone patented the text box. Then anyone who wants to use a text box in his/her application would need the patent holder's permission.
