Can anyone help with this problem?

Hello everyone, I was just wondering if someone could help me out with a problem I have.

I start half life 2 and start a new game and within 2 minutes of it playing the intro movie it crashes on me and windows comes up and says " hl2.exe encountered an unexpected error and had to close." the technical data doesn't say anything about how it crashed. i've tried skipping to another level, reinstalling, deleting everything but steamapps and steam.exe but nothing works. I have the latest video drivers (its a Nvidia FX 5500). I played this game on my computer before and it worked fine but its just suddenly started doing this. Can someone please help me? Many thanks.

I tried pretty much everything on the steam help list and none of it worked, its weird. I can't see how it worked fine before but now crashes within 5 mins of me playing with no reason listed. The game runs at a good frame rate for those 5 minutes and then suddenly freezes and crashes to the desktop with a windows error. My system specs haven't changed since I last played.

ya i have the exact same problem with my desktop and laptop. i'm not sure if it's the video drive or the virus pop up blocker. so if anyone could help out that would be great
