In the Beta, I was concerned because in the hacked aztec maps, I could only see a shitty water texture, instead of the nice one that now is frequently displayed in CSS screenshots.

I have a Geforce 3, will I see nice water? (I am currently playing with full everything...)

The water effects arn't really map dependant. Water on a GF3 is not going to look like it does in screenshots, as it is not DX9 compliant. Sorry. :-/

Thank you, and do you know what the cheapest DX9 card out on the market is now?

Probably like the 5200,. but trust me, you don't want it. The GFX might look better but your FPS will be very dissapointing. I'd say get a minimum of a GeForce FX 5700 ($80 on pricewatch.com), or, if you can afford it, throw down $150 for an ATi 9800 Pro. The pro can handle games like Doom 3 (assuming your processor is up to the task) and will probably carry you at least through 2005. At least I'm hoping mine will ;)

A really good place to check out hardware reviews and get the dirt bottom prices is www.newegg.com

Well thank you very much.

What do you know about the X700? Isn't it really good for 200 bucks?
Have you heard anything about it? Just a thought...

You're most certainly welcome.

I havent heard much about it or seen how it measures up, as it is a very new card,. but I'm sure its rather nice, and will make a world of difference..

I'd definitly suggest reading up on it a bit tho,. dig up some reviews/comparisons, and maybe someone here knows how it stacks up. Buyin a video card (or any pc hardware) shouldn't be done lightly. Still I think its probably a good choice.

**edit,. one note,. if you're thinking you might want to upgrade your motherboard/cpu sometime in the next six months, then you really should upgrade the video card at the same time, so you can go with the much faster PCI-Express interface. Just FYI.

the x700 is really no good imo. it's basically a little better than the 9800pro for more money, not really worth it.

if i were you, i'd go for a 9800pro, or if you want to dish out some money you could get an x800 pro, and that'd last you at least a couple of years.
