Now I know the straightforward answer is "NO!", but I have a computer downstaris that's connected to the internet and my gaming rig upstairs which isn't. Can I install and register the game downstairs and then play on my gaming PC or (as I'm pretty sure Steam updates the HL2 files) can I transfer the files from the PC downstairs to my gaming one?

Any help would be much appreciated:)

I'm assuming they are not networked?

If you can validate your files (if you haven't already), backup Steam and all the GCF files after making sure things are updated, you can put it all onto your gaming machine via CD's or DVD's etc.

You should just take your gaming rig downstairs for a few hours to update and verify HL2. It's easier than Devvo's idea (which can be done if you simply don't have internet) and it saves on CD's/DVD's.

Install, validate cd key, and update downstairs.

Burn updated .gcf's to dvd and put them on steam upstairs. All offline, and play. (log into the same account)

You could just install the HL2 dvd onto your gaming machine, but you won't have any updates, do you care though?

I installed it downstairs, validated the files and then moved the whole "Valve" folder upstairs to my gaming PC (which didn't have any Steam or HL2 files installed on it), but it doesn't work...I'm I doing anything wrong?:(

I tried to connect my gaming PC to my internet connection, but it kept saying my IP address was incorrect (despite me not actually needing to have one in my TCP/IP properties for my ISP). I couldn't be bothered to call my ISP to get it solved though.
