I was checking out DoD:S and decided i would buy it, just cuz it was so much fun on the free trial weekend... after an hour or so of downloading and updateding i was ready to play! ok, click icon... find server... *waiting* " could not connect to master server." WTF!? This was working just a second ago... so after about 30 min. of retring, and looking for solutions i gave up and tried playing CS:S again because i figured... hell this games works... ok... click CS:S icon... find server... " could not connect to masert server." WTF?! can some one please tell me how i can fix this... it would really mean a lot becasue I really want to play CS:S, DoD:S and HL2: DM again...

How Come No One Can Seem To Help Me With This!?
How come you can't seem to use a little punctuation, capitols- (and in appropriate places, too, not just never, sometimes, or at the start of each word), etc?

You don't use a firewall? Wow. Just....wow. I can't even begin to imagine what could be crawling around inside your computer. Have you ever heard of spyware, malware, adware, or virus's? Do you have any software even installed to combat these?

what hell are you talking about? " How Come No One Can Seem To Help Me With This!? " all the punctuation is there... im not sure how every first letter of the word is capitalized because i used Caps Lock... and about the firewall i dont go on the net on my gaming partition, I only use the internet for online games... which dont work so I shouldnt have any problems... plus, if i decide not to go to porn sites my chances of picking things up are much slimmer... now that we've had enough comments and such i would really appreciate it if some one could help me out on my original post.

I had the same problem, the problem is named Steam.
I just restarted Steam, and voila, it worked again.

you might need the file of master server put in the steam file. if you click on your steam folder then click config there should be a file in there called masterserver.vtf if not u might be able to download it somewhere or i could send it to you.

ok... thanx, I'll give that a shot and let you know if it works or not.

ROFLMAO! And as long as I only have unprotected sex with chicks that aren't hookers, I won't get an STD? Dude, I am trying to help you by educating you. Your PC isn't working properly, and you don't have any software running to stop programs designed to get into your PC and stop it working properly. Don't you think it is something to at least explore? Sure porn sites are rife with nasty stuff, but there is crap out there specifically designed to hunt down unprotected PC's like yours, that has nothing to do with porn sites, and will get you regardless of where you go. And even though you don't seem to know much about PC's, you are going to dismiss this possiblity? You don't see the connection? You don't even need to. PC's can be very twitchy. I had a PC that wouldn't run certain programs, and it turned out that the printer and its drivers were the problem. But the stuff I was trying to run didn't even use a printer! Just "one of those things...".

But if you don't want help, that's fine.

I dont need help... i know i need to put some stuff on it, i just havent gotten around to it yet because i just recently formated my drive... its one of thoughs things that I keep telling my self im gonna do but keep putting it off. besides, I wasnt having any problems untill i installed DOD:S, and it was actually working for a while ( when i say working i mean I could get into servers then almost automatically lag like I've never lagged before. ) then it would crash telling me my ping was too high ( i dont know what this means because I've never had this problem before either... but i know what your say'n i do need to get some thing on it soon.

You don't seem to understand.

If you turn on a computer, disable all its firewalls, unplug it from a router and run the ethernet cable STRAIGHT to your modem, then let that PC sit around, turned on, with nothing happening, it will STILL be attacked.

The second you plug that ethernet cable into the back of your PC, you're opening up a world of hurt for your PC.

If you leave a PC in the formentioned state, just sitting there, it'll either contract some crap or get violated by some hacker in maybe an hour or two.

How old are you? You seem really ignorant to the dangers presented before you.

Here's ANOTHER situation, just to get you thinking.

You're using STEAM to purchase games, something that requires you send your Credit Card Number over the internet. Now, your PC is without protection, and within a few minutes of transaction, it is very possible that some dip will get hold of your credit card number as it travels over that pretty little wire, and buy a ton of cars, houses, porno vids, you name it, with YOUR credit card.

EDIT: Oh and as to your original problem, just restart Steam.

i tried resarting steam, that didnt work. it dosnt really matter much now considering my PC is... um " out of comition ".
