Can we get the forums back on track?

is it just me or do i feel suffocated trying to wade through all the garbage the hordes of newbies are posting? i would like to know what the rest of the regulars here think about this... what made me feel like posting this thread is partly from

actually, to put it more accurately, that was the last straw, that made me want to post this thread.

i say we get icarus back and let him loose as a super mod and do some house cleaning. he was so hardcore and insanely cool/good about that. i would make a poll, "bring icarus back to clean house?" but i'm afraid a mod or two might see that as continuing the whole story of icarus and munro, and i don't want any hostility that may arise.


edit: damn i need to change the thread title ... to attract more interest to this thread. it's kinda a big deal i think. who thought the other forums would get so intensely bad?

Really guys, you gotta remember, this is just how it was for others.. Jackal, you joined when I did, we both came along around the time of the stolen source code. Remember how we felt when older users complained about us "n00bs"? We didn't like it one bit, now we're the older users.. Give em a chance, everyone is excited, it'll calm down and good users will appear out of it all, like separating the wheat from the chaff.

Really, give em a break, any _real_ troublemakers will simply be banned, the rest will get bored or stay on to make useful contributions to the site. Hating them because they're new wont help anyone, it didn't with us, look what happened to me

heheh, yeah i thought about what you are sayin when i was posting the thread, but then again... i was lurking for a while, and spent most of my time reading offtopic, because of all the great funny topics. and i was very careful not to spam needlessly and all that, as i'm sure you pretty much had the same modus operandii. although... looking at your post count... i dunno... hah j/k...

in the mean time, while they're still not bored with the site, everyone else has to suffer ;(

also, can you change the title of my thread to..."Can we get the forums back on track?"

Am I? I was under the impression he was referring to the people who signed up in the past week or so. But okay.

By the way, I was just playing about Icarus. I don't really know much about that situation, and it's really none of my business, but what can I say? I let the troublemaker inside of me get the best of me sometimes.

The forums are back on track.. This was bound to happen on the release of a game we've all been waiting for years for.

It happened with the first E3 vids/pics

It happened with the stolen version

It happened with the second E3 vids/pics

It happened with Doom3 being released/leaked

It happened with CS:S

It happened with the gold announcement

It happened with the release of HL2

It'll happen when the first bits of real news about HL3 come along

It'll happen when HL3 is delayed

It'll happen when HL3 goes gold

It'll happen when HL3 is released

It'll happen when Steam dies and everyone is left with unplayable games

It'll happen far in the future when DNF turns up on the Wolfenstien engine


Everyone almost will make a dumb first few posts, annoy people, I know a lot of users on here who were constantly getting into trouble, now their well known members of the site. I remember one guy who was constantly being banned, insulting everyone else, was a complete dick, now he's a respected member who's talented in the modeling department and has made quite a few useful tutorials for people.

Just give it time, everyone is excited and happy, things will return to the normal routine soon enough, just hang in there

The topic Icarus is still a touchy subject, but I think we need to clear things up.

I chatted with him for a few minutes to try and clear things up but it had no result... He just went offline saying everyone's against him. I've trusted him for this long but now it just seems like he's trying to justify himself and make people like TDE look bad..

i certainly hope this is true, and it doesn't degrade from here on out to something like steampowered or umm... various other unmentionable hl2 fansites...

I very much doubt that'll happen.. It'll just be for a while during the excitement, then things will calm down, rumors will start up about HL3 and the storyline, mods will eventually come out, slowly at first, just a few maps right now, various improvements and hacks to change the gameplay, maybe the physgun will make an appearance, the odd patch or two from Valve.. Don't forget DoD thats due soon aswell.. Then the larger mods will be finished.

I'm not locking the thread, none of the mods have done anything wrong and we've nothing to hide, and while I'm more than a little pissed at his claim I'm discrediting him (when its pretty obvious he's doing this all by himself) I'm just gonna ignore it. I've better things to be doing with my time than worrying about that.. And noobs, as in people that have just signed up for a BB, are a good thing. Growth is good for any forum. Old members will sometimes leave and unless new members take their place, a forum might turn out to become a very dark and empty place.

And usually even the most noobish noob can pick up enough netiquette in a few days to become less of a pain... or get banned trying.
