Canada will nearly double its troop strength in Afghanistan to about 1,100 by this summer, Defense Minister Bill Graham told The Associated Press on Sunday.

G-Job boys! What do you Canadians think about this?

OT:You know...if this thread turns in to a flame war...you're probally gonna get banned.

Back on topic...thats good to hear.Hopefully they will send more in the coming months.

Why would I get banned if it turned into a flame war? I suppose if I started the flaming that would make since but any other scenerio is redicules. I'm just posting current events (Announced today) from the Political section of AP news.

I think it's great that they're helping out more.

It usually does turn into a flame war...

Hence Bliink closing lots of threads in this forum the past couple weeks.

Also no...no I won't stop with that stuff or whatever the hell it is you're talking about.

Because the candians here will probally take your statement as a bad thing or sarcastic like and everyone is gonna bitch...and then it will probally go into "candians this and that" and "the iraq war blah blah"...also don't forget you're at 7 points...3 away.

Most Canadians agree that we need a better military, its currently a huge embarassment. Keep in mind though that Canadians want a better military but the general consensus is we only want it so we can keep up with our peace-keeping duties, nothing more.

You know, prempting Flame Wars by trying to start them by "as soon as Tron posts here, X war will start". Really. :D Its great fun and all to see your right ... :D But c'mon!

On-Topic: Whys Canadia doing this? :D

Just watch a few popular Canadian comedy shows doing skits about how bad our military is and you will understand.

You should let people speak for themselves... I was trying to get a politcal discussion going about the increase of Canadian troops. So I'd appreciate it if you'd contribute to the topic or zip it.

Back to the topic...

I've trained with a few Canadians... Seemed like they really knew their stuff... Is what you said correct that a majority of the Canadians want to expand their military?

Wait a moment ... wait a moment ... do you have a link? Why does Canada think they're military is shambeled out? :D I thought they had some good tanks and camo ... ? ^^

I ain't prempting anything...just showing what could and can happen if you do not word your sentences/posts/threads titles correctly.

Also they are probally doing this to boost political gains...who knows?

Topic please.

Anyways, back on topic, I'm glad this is happening.
The number 1 reason I oppose war in Iraq is that it's a distraction from fighting Al-Queda.
Since the Afghanistan war actually does have something to do with fighting Al-Qaeda, I'm all for it.

::applauds::

To be honest, I think Bin Laden could be somewhere in Palestine. Or Russia. Would'nt suprise me ... Valdimir Putin has been acting a little strange lately ...

Political gains? You mean that you think Canadians will support a candidate more if he/she is hawkish?

(And thanks for getting back on track)

Hmm, im quite sure America has influenced this.
If america had to put more troops into Afghanistan... there'd be problems, for a start it publically shows that America cannot invade another country and successfully install a democratic government. And that can be applied to Iraq.
Ofcourse its canadian troops, this doesnt reflect on american politics...

but i am glad Canada are showing themselves to have a military might, it's a great country, i've been (back when i was 7) and it was amazing.

Well maybe like say "The more we help to find terrorist the more the people will like us" type situation.

If they support a certain candidate for those reasons I do not know.I don't live in cananda or study up on their politics....so I'm just guessing the situation.

Iraqs doing well ... ON-TOPIC:

I dont believe America had anything to do with this. After all ... they're Canadian troops ... and Canadia, can choose where to put them. :D

more troops in afghanistan i say! troops from around the world.
i do believe bin laden might be still there. tbh

meh, I'd rather they were deployed in sudan or somewhere more deserving of humanitarian intervention

oh and tron's got a point, this is nothing more than an attempt at stickin' it to me ..but back on topic

I think its...hmm... I'm not sure. It's good that Afghanistan is getting some more badly needed #cough cough ran off to Iraq cough cough# troops. But at the same time I like Canadas reluctance to get involved with the war-y side of the world except when necessary.

Perhaps Afghanistan really was necessary.

Perhaps... Good thing GW sent us in there then huh.

I hope the Candians get the equipment they are looking to buy. Not only will it help them militarily it'll help our economy when they buy all those F-18's... Win-win for all.

BTW... My best friend is in Afghanland right now.... (On the border to Iran)...

He says what they need most is T-Paper, those walmart FRS/GRS hand held radios, and Beany babies... GPS's if you're rich and can afford a 100-200 gift. (Incase any Candian here wanted to support their troops.) PM me for addresses to mail to.

Off topic but funny... A group of us sent out 19 boxes last week... In one box we put in an MRE... It was opened and the candy was gone... ROFL. We were gonna send a Playboy with anything even remotely racey cutout but we thought even that could be perceived wrong by the culture so we skipped it.

Sweden is still neutral, as always. :p

But keep in mind that this is in Afghanistan, and not Iraq. Now that the US has forgotten about this country, other countries must send troops.
