Canada beat the Russians 5-0, for the Gold in the World Juniors of Hockey!!

Finland Beat USA for Bronze, so USA gets squat even though they were expeced to win.

Apparently Canada wasnt even expected to win a metal.

Now to Win Gold at the Olympics Hockey.

i was watching the game and yeah Canada did dominate. the officials did miss a Russian goal tho...so i suppose video replay needs to be improved for international hockey.

anyway yeah, Canada was not expected to win Gold...or even a medal depending on who you talk to...but hey, it was on home soil and winning something was important :p

the one other team besides Canada that i liked was Team Finland...those guys play very similarly to Team Canada, its amazing.
the same passion for the game, similar heart and grit and maybe in the skill department, they lack a little, they prove year in and year out how a small nation can win

That gold medal game was great to watch. Plenty of checking and puck movement from both teams. And even with 5 goals scored against the Russians, I thought both goalies were great.

The non-goal in the second period will no doubt be talked about for some time, but seeing as Canada was dominating in every aspect of the game, it's not like the goal would have made much of a dent.

Whereas the Philadelphia Flyers showcased two of the best players of the tournament last year in Jeff Carter and Mike Richards, Toronto boasts the two best players this year in Justin Pogge and Tukka Rask.

Who would have thought the USA would self-destruct like that? They went from tournament favorites to the most hated team after a loss to Switzerland. I never saw that coming.

How about Brent Sutter and his incredible unbeaten streak as head coach two years in a row? An amazing 12-0!

Congratulations Canada!! :)

I don't think anybody cares.

to be fair now, the score was 2-0 at the time Russia scored the goal which was not counted and there was alot of hockey left to be played...and well maybe it could have turned the tides for the Russians.

all im saying is maybe its time for international hockey to adapt the NHL standards (2 referees, video review) and train all referees expected to ref high calibre pro games... its unfortunate that goal was not counted.

yeah...in a ways it was sad to see because as a hockey fan, i was hoping USA hockey was getting better (and they are).
i guess they just need to show some class and heart and they could be right up there winning medals every year...but until that time, i will remember this Team USA not so fondly because of that cheap shot at the end of the Canada/USA game.

and oh.. for those who do not like hockey, don't post in here as you don't add anything useful to this thread.

That's true. Russia was outshooting Canada by quite a lot in the first period. In fact now that I think of it, Russia did deflate after the disalowed goal. They just didn't seem to create the same amount of scoring opportunities that they did prior to the incident.

I agree here. The speed of the game is just too fast now-a-days for only one referee to call the game.
