So it's starting again,
I believe we will need a thread to discuss that campaing.

I'm gonna vote for the Bloc since the conservatives and the liberals are each just as corrupt and the Bloc is, to my eyes, the most progressive party there is at the federal level.

Conservatives: Corrupt Right Wingers
Liberals: Corrupt Left Wingers
NDP: Idealistic, stupid Left Wingers that think minimum wage should be 1Billion an hour
Green Party: tree humping leftwingers that would bankrupt the country in about 10 minutes
Bloc: couldn't tell ya I'm in Ontario

You: Mostly uninformed.

I'll be voting NDP or Green this election. The Liberals don't get a damn thing done, and the Conservatives are slimy as **** and breathtakingly corrupt. Gotta love a PM who breaks a written promise to not call an early election.

Let's all give Mr. Harper a round of applause for pulling that 'fixed election dates' promise out of his ass :)

the liberals are centre ...guess you wont be voting ..so are not really entitled to an opinion

Hey now, his opinion counts.

But only in telephone polls.

Just to spite CptStern, I should be Supreme Lord Governor Militant of Canada. :p

It'll be fun! Besides, you guys don't seem to have anyone worth voting for. :p

you wouldnt be anything because we havent voted a fascist party into power since forever ..so you'd just be a sad south korean in a military uniform shouting out slogans to a nonexistant audience :E

Yeah I'm voting for Bloc. It's not like they have any of my country's interests at heart. Or that they'd get elected.

ITT: Quebecois need to grow up.

ITT: Canadian intolerance shines again.

People like you only make me more determined to vote for the bloc and give them money, that makes me think, I should renew my membership too.

Also, I am well aware of the fact that they are not aiming for power (but are you trying to imply that any party, unless in power, is useless? Boy, the NDP voting people should be made aware of that too) but that's never been the goal of the party. It's aiming at being somewhat of a "watchdog" that makes sure to vote on bills in accordance with Quebec values.

If there was not a need for such a party, they would not get that much votes, right?

Where to start:

Conservative: I don't mind them, but Harper breaking his promise not to hold an early election should be taken as an omen to what this party is going to do in the future. Another thing that gets me going is Harpers decision to get the car factory going again, but paying the car manufacture (I think that's what he's doing to get the factory going again. I'm to lazy to go research it :E ) Anyway, I think he's doing this to buy votes more than anything. Why else would he do this during an election? Why couldn't he of done it before? Harper is starting to seem more like a snake then anyone else.

Liberal: Dion is a IDIOT!! Why the hell did the Liberal party have to choose the most incompetent fool as a leader? What a douche bag! First thing, he's not a good leader. His speeches will put you to sleep, and his campaign has sucked so far. The Carbon tax is the worst idea to come from any party so far. I read in the news a few days ago, that he went to a High School to talk to the students in the gym. Everyone was expecting him to talk about education costs, school development, hell, even cell phones; he was in a high school. What did he talk about? How to protect Canada's meat plants...:x

NDP: Layton seems like a nice guy, but that's not how you get PM. Layton has a soft personality. I can see him breaking down in question period in the house of commons if he ever gets the PM position. His ideas are not too bad (except for closing down the oil sands...what a stupid idea), but he is a good leader, he just has to grow a pair of balls before he even decides to run for PM. He's also quite environmental, which is not the best thing to preach unless you have a great idea what to do about the environment. Layton does not.

Bloc: Why is the Bloc even allowed to participate in the election? All they care about is Quebec. Why people continue to vote for them, I will never understand. Aren't we trying to keep this country together? The Bloc will never get a PM position, and if they do, say good buy to Canada.

Green: :x :x :x What a waste. Environmental issues should be a part of your campaign for sure, but not your whole ideology. The Green party is gonna is put Canada in debt faster than you can say "Where's my money?" I don't mind money put into research and development of new ideas to save energy, but be realistic about it.

The only thing I wish, is that when I go to vote I want to see the following options:

  • Conservative
  • Liberals
  • NDP
  • Bloc
  • Green
  • NONE OF THE ABOVE

What a statement that could make in this country.

Why is the Bloc even allowed to participate in the election?

That's what we call "democracy" back here.

All they care about is Quebec.

All the Liberals care about is Ontario, all the Conservatives care about is Alberta, etc...

Why people continue to vote for them, I will never understand.

That's what people tend to do when only one party is willing to devote itself to their nation.

Aren't we trying to keep this country together?

I know I'm not.

The Bloc will never get a PM position, and if they do, say good buy to Canada.

The NDP has never gotten a PM position either, are they useless and powerless? No, they still seat at the house of commons and vote on bills. The Bloc is not there to win the elections and seize power, its only a standing reminder of the failures of the Canadian confederation.
If there was no need for it, they wouldn't be there.

As for Harper, well, I'd never trust a redneck with power...

The NDP and Green parties are the only ones I find trustworthy (the Liberals somewhat less so, the Conservatives don't even rank on my trust list). And after the big parties trying to shove May out of the televised campaign debates, I'm not so sure if the NDP and Green are equal anymore...

Well the greens never got anyone elected under their banner.
Anyways, May has never participated in such a debate and will probably be an easy prey for everyone else.

Can't wait to tune in to the French debate, Dion and Duceppe speak it as their first language, Layton has a sweet accent and Harper is somewhat decent, but May... Forget it. She won't stand a chance.

that's What We Call "democracy" Back Here. democracy Doesn't Work If Your Trying To Split A Country Apart.

All The Liberals Care About Is Ontario, All The Conservatives Care About Is Alberta, Etc... did You Read My Entire Post? I Bashed Every Party, And You Are Correct.

That's What People Tend To Do When Only One Party Is Willing To Devote Itself To Their Nation. quebec Is Not A "nation" It's A "province". If You Want Equality In Canada, Trying To Run Away From Canada Is Not The Answer. I Don't Like How Things Are Going In This Country Either, And I Live In Alberta. When Part Of The Country Wants To Separate, It's A Very, Very Bad Thing.

I Know I'm Not. and That Sums Up My Entire Point On The Matter.

If There Was No Need For It, They Wouldn't Be There. how Is Reminding The Past Going To Help? You Know The Government Will Never Listen.

As For Harper, Well, I'd Never Trust A Redneck With Power...i Totally Agree With You On That One. I Really Don't Like Harper. If I Could Vote On The Less Evil Of Them All, I Would Vote Ndp. I Would Rather Have A Soft, Scared Pm Rather Than A Snake Stealing Other Peoples' Money.

6char...

democracy Doesn't Work If Your Trying To Split A Country Apart.

How does that work?
Basically the Americans, the Indians, the Algerians, The Vietnamese, The Cubans, The Kosovars, The East Timorians (spelling?), the Chechens and the other groups that fought or fight for their independance are anti democratic?
Even canada somehow fought for its independance from the British empire.

quebec Is Not A "nation" It's A "province".

The House of Commons disagrees with you, Quebec IS a nation.
You are a negationist.
I do not understand what the problem is with recognizing that Quebeccers form a nation/people/community different than the Canadian nation, with a different culture, langage, history and values.

how Is Reminding The Past Going To Help? You Know The Government Will Never Listen.

I do not see the link with my previous post but It's very important to learn lessons from the past in order to not repeat previous mistakes.

Also the "government will never listen" part is very important, if the Government will not listen to grievances and demands of the Quebec nation, what better party is there to make sure our voice is heard in Ottawa than the Bloc?

i Totally Agree With You On That One. I Really Don't Like Harper. If I Could Vote On The Less Evil Of Them All, I Would Vote Ndp. I Would Rather Have A Soft, Scared Pm Rather Than A Snake Stealing Other Peoples' Money.

Well, you're in Alberta so even if you voted for the NDP, your vote would be lost in a sea of conservative votes.

If your vote will be lost in a sea of Conservative ballots, vote anyway. It gives the party money - or so I'm told - and it bumps their numbers up slightly for the next election.

Every vote = $2 for the party. I'm not sure who to vote for yet.

Hey Chimp: seperate.

Have fun with no economy.

Rude, condescending and uneducated comment. I'd like to see numbers and charts, I mean, an economist such a you could certainly provide such references, right?

As for the money a party gets, yes, I guess it's good reason to vote. I always end up in a liberal district (what's the exact word?) so my candidate never wins. And I also figure that my vote will still be counted so it still sends a message.

I'm not sure if I'll even vote, since my riding is consistently Conservative (Waaaaay too many churches in this part of town).

I'd like to vote NDP, since the Liberals are just so damn uninteresting. But I'm still kinds pissed that Jack Layton helped bring down the Paul Martin Liberals and put Harper into power. Harper just waltzed into a power vacuum. Jack had a good thing going with the Liberals, but he wanted the PM's job. Too bad that there's no way he'll ever get it. He should have been content to influence and leverage the Liberals while helping to keep the Conservatives at bay. He doesn't realize the NDP is not strong enough to fight the Conservatives alone. Now he's burnt that bridge, and no one big enough to stop Harper's government, and no one is willing to form an alliance to keep them in check.

I was always quite happy with the idea of Liberal-NDP coalition goverments.

This is just how I see it, and I don't even pretend to think I've got the whole thing straight.

Anyone but Harper '08!

I know how you feel. I live in a NDP riding so I'm also stuck with a party I didn't vote for.

The system should be made proportional.

Harper: Snake
Dion: Mouse
Layton: Birdie
May: Piece of grass
Duceppe: Snowman

I'm voting for the snowman because it's charistmatic and fits my values of left/progressive and also because it's the only party able to fight the snake in my city. I'm happy because my vote is at the same time strategic and fits my values.

But I'll take anything but the snake.
