Wow. We really did it this time. First of all liberals in Canada attacked the US to gain popularity in Canada...bad idea (but the US is an easy target for attacks with Bush in power anyway). Stupid Liberals. There messing this country up. Also just last night they were gonna post an advertisment that deminished our Canadian military, but was later pulled due to contraditctions within the media and with people online...but it was too late, the Conservatives got a hold of the ad and bashed the liberals to a bloody pulp (in which they should) for even thinking of doing such an ad. The veterans in this country are also extremely upset as am I. I'm changing my vote this time. The liberals were looking ok for the first month, now they really screwed up. But I'm not voting conservatives, that would also be stupid. I'm voting for New Democrats because they are the safest party to vote for. The leader of the NDP will not become prime minister, and I'm steering my vote away from the conservatives and the liberals. Also I think we need more NDP MP's from alberta in the House of Commons.

Our politics are completely screwed and we need to strip down the whole house of commons and put someone else in power. This is just looking bleak up here in Canada.

I hear there's a move to install an elected senate too creating a legislative system similar to ours here. I think that'd be a good move, I like how ours works with the two tiers working hand in hand, Senate being the upper authority.

The senate is second to the courts in the USA. The courts are usually the ones who make things final. In Canada, we have that too, but the government has the right to overrule a stupid ruling by the courts while in the USA, whatever the courts decide, stays. But Canada might be heading in that direction.

I'm talking about the Senate being the upper tier in Congress (above the House of Representatives) didn't mean of all three branches.

The courts can be overruled by changing the constitution itself, but that requires such a HUGE effort that it would be almost impossible to accomplish unless it was something that was unanimously agreed upon pretty much. See: Prohibition/21st Amendment

I can predict a Canadian senate being populated by the liberals, but I bet your parliament/house if setup like ours would be completely reshaped and would be able to shoot stupid things down from below before they reached the senate.

In a sense the courts are > senate. The courts interpret the constitution. So if the senate makes a dodgy bill and it passes the courts can over turn it if it doesn't fit the contitution.

I hope Conservatives doesn't get elected. That would be the worse choice of the four... having a global view of the 3 federal parties, NPD would be the best, no doubt, but since I'm a Quebec separatist then hell i'm in for the BQ. O well, maybe having conservatives at the power will only make Quebec more upset and get Quebec to seperate faster. Bad choice Canada, bad, bad and sad choice. I might be a separatist, but noway on earth i would like Canada to become USA junior.

meh...
i did not read too much into those ads you are referring to dream31ca.
reason? well...notice how the PC and NDP ads are all just about negative ad campaigning? :|

instead of giving Canadians reasons to vote for the party they just bash each other.. i'd rather focus on what these parties are offering which would be positive and different from the current government.

all these ads are worthless IMHO :x

I agree ..the liberals are especially to blame ..they really shouldnt spend money to make Harper look bad, he does that well enough with out them

Harper said he wont bring up the abortion issue if elected ..I dont believe him for a second. He'll also repeal the same sex marriage bill, pour money into the military for weapons that is contrary to canada's role as a peacekeepers and revive the Airborne Regiment (disbanded after shameful conduct and criminal activity)

no harper is not good for canada ..and personally there's something about him I dont like or trust ..it's those beady little weasel eyes and that over-zealous right-wing conviction that they have the moral authority to judge what canadians can and cant do

I'll vote for the liberals just so the conservatives wont get into power ..since they joined with the canadian alliance they've become a lot more scarier

Did you see Harper during the last debate? His forced smiles always annoyed me.

Anyway none of the parties are doing a very good job, Conservatives I just can't stand. Liberals have been in for too long and have not done a very good job making people think they deserve another term, and the NDP is acting like a little annoying dog nipping at the heels of the larger parties and constantly going "Look at me! Look at me! we exist!".

I am not at all happy about this.

agreed, it would be pretty scary seeing Harper as the PM and we aren't even getting into what the PC agenda is yet...
i said i would vote for the NDP because it would be like choosing the lesser of the three evils but these most recent polls suggest i need to change my vote (to Liberal :( ) because the thought of a PC government is a nightmare i'd like to avoid.

hopefully in these last few days people come to their senses and vote Liberal or NDP...like i said in previous threads, do not vote with the thought of the sponsership scandel in mind.

I listened to the debates on the radio ..even there he comes across as unlikeable ..and his forced smiles are so transparent, it's almost as if he's thinking "keep smiling, soon you will be away from the unwashed masses and amonst your own blue-blooded kind"

Did you see the NDP budget? 71 Billion dollars over 5 years. Analysts are saying that if the NDP gets in power and there is a recession, Canada will have another deficit. Not like we didn't have one before, after the last PC goverment, Canada was in a 41 Billion dollar deficit, in which the liberals got out of.

The reason I'm voting for NDP is because, they focus a lot more on the working class. I would rather have a government that supports the actual people of the country rather than the Conservatives, who obviously just want power, and liberals want to keep power. And 71 Billion dollars is a lot of money, but at least there honest about it, Unlike the Conservatives, who have shown absolutly nothing yet, and I'm starting to wonder if they will show anything.

The thing that really scares me is that the conservatives are actually beating the liberals when it comes to polling people. Very scary.

There is also something else about the conservatives. Stephen Harper was mentioned in the Washington Times in the USA for his support of a extreme right wing goverment in the USA. Apparently he said this about 10 years ago, but this proves that he hasn't changed one bit. If Harper gets into power, I'm afraid that Canada might actually go along with the missle defence system and put missiles in Canada. The entire country does not want this to happen.

man...this election is either going to turn out ok...or extremely bad. Lets hope people in the East smarten up and stop liking the Conservatives so much.

Liberals are ok, but they have gone down hill with the ads their posting.

Not bad your Spanish hehe, just change "Venezuelan" to "Venezolano" and it would have been perfect :D

Regarding to your question, I've been living in Montreal for some months now, and even when I am not Canadian nor entitled to vote here, I always like to know the political situation of the country I am living in... :D

ah ok that makes sense ..I was more joking than serious, I dont mind if non-nationals take interest in our government (although compared to most governments we're extremely boring)

Who would have thought that the Bloq would be the most professional of the four?

I'm still torn as to vote for the NDP or the Liberals. I'd like to vote for the NDP because the Liberals are starting to get lazy after being in office for so long. However, with the projected spending that the NDP are planning, our steadily increasing dollar (which I think is the highest it's ever been) could drop substantially. With the Liberals, you don't know whether they'll actually follow through with their ideas (like the banning of handguns to combat the high number of shootings).

On voting day, it may just come down to a coin toss with me. :rolling:
